Louisiana's U.S. Senate candidates tangled over illegal immigration, the federal deficit and the role of money in politics Thursday during their final face-to-face meeting of a campaign that has grown increasingly nasty and personal as Election Day nears.
The hour-long debate between Republican incumbent David Vitter and Democratic challenger Charlie Melancon featured some of the strongest attacks of the campaign, as Melancon repeatedly accused Vitter of hypocrisy and panelists pressed the senator on whether he broke the law when he committed a "serious sin" involving a Washington, D.C., prostitution ring.
Vitter refused to go beyond his previous statements about the D.C. Madam and said he believes he has been forgiven by his family and "my God." He said the voters he has encountered at town hall meetings are willing to look beyond his indiscretions, and he suggested that only the media and "political hacks" continue to dwell on the topic.

Obviously, living in California, I did not see the debate.
Was Elliot Spitzer one of the panelists?
Was it where Vitter called those who insist on picking at scabs "political hacks"?
I saw the debate..and I’m pretty sure it’s on C-span’s video library..Charlie was mean, vicious...Vitter had to know it was coming, and he did a pretty good job of handling it...he took the high road, when I might have taken a few jabs at the reporter... Vitter had a few good shots of his own...

Hypocrite. Melancon would most probably steal the gold out his dead mothers teeth (liberals are taught that from birth). Mean and vicious are not two traits I would like to have in my Senator - not at this time in American history. I’m sticking with Vitter on Nov. 2! God has forgiven his trespass, Wendy has forgiven him and that is all that counts.

While that is true it is also true that the populace is much more involved in politics than ever before. In the past, before the internet, most of us knew that shenanigans were going on, especially in the Democrat Party, but weren't sure exactly what they were and we thought there was nothing we could do about it. That is no longer true because it gave rise to the Tea Party Movement.
