Hopi Tribal Council bans environmental groups
The Observer ^ | 9/29/2009

The Hopi Tribe has a message for the Sierra Club and other environmental groups: Keep out!

That is the response of the Hopi Tribal Council on Monday to what it says has been continuous concerted attacks from local and national environmental groups "bent on advancing their interests and agenda at the expense of the Hopi Tribe and its sovereign interest."

The council wants the Sierra Club and other environmental groups and on-reservation organizations affiliated with these groups to know they are not welcome on the Hopi Reservation, declaring them persona non grata - no longer favored or welcome.

By a resolution approved 12-0, the council said environmentalists have deprived the tribe "of markets for its coal resources" and coal revenues needed to sustain governmental services, provide jobs for tribal members and safeguard Hopi culture and tradition.

In 2005, environmental groups played a significant role in the shutdown of the Mohave Generating Station, which the Hopi Council contends "deprived the Hopi Tribe of many millions of dollars of annual operating revenues," according to the resolution.

Revenue losses from the Mohave power plant range from an estimated $6.5 million to $8.5 million annually.

The council feels that the economic viability of the Navajo Generating Station - the tribe's only remaining coal customer - is also being threatened, and that environmentalists' actions could lead to "total economic collapse of the tribe."

The resolution encourages all Indian nations across the country to evaluate their relationships with environmental groups and possibly reconsider those alliances in order to protect tribal sovereignty.

Besides the Sierra Club, the resolution has also banned The Natural Resources Defense Council, the National Parks Conservation Association and the Grand Canyon Trust from the Hopi Reservation.

They need to re-open the Mojave Generating Station, also.

Outstandingly magnificent news from the oldest of Americans.

The village of Orabi on Hopi Mesa has been continuously occupied since around 900 AD. Black Mesa holds large coal deposits that are the target of Moonbats.

You can’t spell enviroMENTAList without MENTAL.

Environmentalists do not want you to be able to step off of any concrete path. That is their goal.

Now if they will all quit voting 99% democrat at the polls. It took a couple hundred years for at least one tribe to figure out that the Dems make big promises but give out nothing. Indians are a sucker for the promise of a free lunch, and that goes double for my Yurok tribe.

If the Navajo and Hopi really want to gain Independence from Washington, they would develop 5 stars hospitals. where else could Canadians and U S citizen could go avoid “Nanny State Health Care”.

AS an American Indian let me say that it is not easy to take a scalp when their head is up their butt.

The Hopi by necessity are conservatives. They have had enough of these Utopian envoronmental whackos. And it takes a lot to get the Hopi going, since thay are generally so placid by nature, a very kind people.Their name means "peaceful ones."

But they have been in Arizona at their Mesas for over a thousand years, no one is going to EFF with them and get away with it.Both the Spanish and the Navajo tried and failed.

I wonder what they make of all of the illegal aliens and drug running into AZ from Mexico.Love to hear what they think about that.

It’s really great to see the indians standing up to the environazis. They’ve figured out that the environuts will gladly sacrifice humans at the altar of their precious sensibilities.

Maybe one day soon the rest of the country will do the same.

Although this item is over a year old, I smile every time I read it.

I find it absurd beyond belief that the Hopi Nation can manage to do what the United States of America cannot : Put the Bugs and Bunny crowd in its place. Throw the watermelons out on their butts.

AS an American Indian let me say that it is not easy to take a scalp when their head is up their butt.

Not only that, but once it is obtained, through great effort, why would you want to keep it? I wouldn't want anything THAT smelly hanging from MY lodgepole!

Good for the Hopi’s.

Hopefully, (pardon the near pun), our tribes out here in Californicator/Oregone will man up and do the same.
