US 9TH REP. STEVE COHEN: GEORGE WASHINGTON & THOMAS JEFFERSON WERE CAREER POLITICIANS
wreg ^ | 10/30/10 | N/A

Posted on 10/31/2010 11:28:59 AM PDT by GailA

Steve Cohen, who greeted voters at a Democratic event several blocks away in Midtown, said that he had in fact been a part of historic bills to give people tax breaks, not tax hikes.

"We voted on the largest tax breaks in United States history in the 111th Congress. In fact, the stimulus bill was 40 percent tax breaks. There have been more tax breaks for 95 percent of the citizens of the middle class," Cohen said.

Cohen is not knocking on doors this weekend, but is still passing out his signature buttons that he said he likes to collect.

He said that it is in fact a difficult year for some of his Democratic colleagues, but that he is not nervous himself. He remains unfazed by some demands to remove people who seem to be Washington insiders.

"We know how Washington works; we're effective at making it work. That's been my life. Some people say we don't need anymore career politicians, but Thomas Jefferson was a career politician and so was George Washington," Cohen said.

Sorry Stevie. That was a different time and YOU are no Washington or Jefferson. You’re nothing but a dumbass career politician afraid of having to find a real job.

Liberals, Democrats, Whatever’s, call ‘em what you will are incredible. They say whatever crosses whatever it is that should have been their minds, or what is left of their minds AD (After Drugs), and actually believe what it is they say.

And the woman in the paper last week bragged about how Cohen “owned” the district. I’m afraid Memphis lefties miss the whole point of republican government.

This man apparently knows nothing about Washington and Jefferson - and what they stood for.

I think if you research deeper than a “one-pager” summary, you’ll find that Washington was quite reluctant to take office. He simply wanted to retire and work his farm.

Big difference between George and now. Washington walked away from it even when he was wanted. Today's politicians wont walk away even when they are despised.

but Thomas Jefferson was a career politician and so was George Washington,"

Yeah but James Madison was a race car driver and he was a black guy too, and Spanish was his native language. And Cherokee because he was part Cherokee too.

I'm a Democrat. I can say any stupid thing I want.

Jefferson was a farmer and an architect as well: he designed Monticello.

Washington started out on a farm, but left to survey on the frontier, werved in the militia, and in later years returned to farming, where he made many innovations in agriculture.

Neither man was limited to one thing, unlike so many today.

I know, but that is the ‘official’ WH viewpoint. It does show he was not a career politician...unlike stevie boy...and he sure wasn’t a socialist anti-American like stevie boy.

Yes, but Jefferson got involved in politics at an early age (26 years old) and was active until he died. We can argue about how much time he devoted to politics during those years.

Washington didn’t get involved in politics until he was 42 years old.

But I agree that there is no comparison in terms or worth or choice between these men and today’s politicians. But I wouldn’t necessarily disagree if somebody called Jefferson a career politician. I certainly would in Washington’s case.

And he died broke and in debt IIRC. Contrast that with today's career politicians.

Cohen also single-handedly fought off a Martian invasion in 1957b, another alternate universe where he did amazingly good things that we have no record of.

Oh, and he won American Idol last week.
