Sell Your Kid's Halloween Candy
Time ^ | 11/1/10 | Brad Tuttle

It's not nearly as bad as it sounds. Actually, it's quite good—for your family, and for our troops overseas.

This, of course, is the weekend for costumed kids to go door to door collecting candy—probably way more than any child could or should eat. What to do with the excess haul?

Check out the Halloween Candy Buy Back program. To participate, you bring your candy tonnage to a dentist's office, where they'll pay you $1 per pound no matter if you've got lollipops or Snickers, M&Ms or Smarties, or any other candy collected during Trick or Treat raids. The dentists then send candy onward to U.S. troops deployed overseas via Operation Gratitude or other military support groups.

How many more ways can adults think of to steal Halloween from the kids? This is pathetic. Shades of Mommy Dearest and letting the kid open all the birthday presents only to be told she can keep one and must give all the others away.

I have to say that at this point, the market price of candy is probably zero. We have people bringing loads of it into work to try to give away and no one wants it.

You stash your candy in your secret hiding place and then at Thanksgiving you find out your big brother knows where your secret stash is hidden and he has been sneaking in and stealing your favorite candy and putting the empty boxes back, for a month! I’m SO mad!

Does your brother know you know he knows where your stash is? Cuz if your brother doesn't know you know he knows, then I'd spike a few of them there candy bars... ;-)

This is like those idiots who used to give us these wax paper cartons in grade school so that we could ‘trick or treat for UNICEF’...if I knew then what I know now I would have said ‘no, I think the Secretary General can buy his own darn Mercedes”.

If this article is talking about taking the surplus that you couldn't give away, then that's great. I didn't link over to the Washington ComPost as I refuse to give that cage liner even a click, so maybe I spoke without understanding.

OK. It was Time, not WaPo. Same reasoning. I’m going to stop talking about this before I make another mistake.

I am starting, and seeking government grants for a new program.
It will collect Halloween candy and turn it into ethanol.
The benefits of course will be enormous.

The dental industry lobbying group has been my biggest challenge so far.

Sorry, I think this is bogus.

Let the kids have their fun. Honestly.

We had ZERO kids trick or treating last night. Maybe because GOD (the government) decreed that TIME was an hour later. Too late for the kids to get up in time for daily prison.

In the 90’s, I lived in South America. They actually LIKED children!

Well maybe the dentists are angling for the ex-troop market once they return to the US. Stranger things have happened!
