Report: Undercover police had kids with activistsBy: The Associated Press | 01/20/12 6:22 PM Britain's Guardian newspaper said Friday that two undercover police officers have fathered children with the activists they were spying on. Key details were hazy but the revelations are the latest in a series of reports which has cast doubt on whether undercover police in the U.K. go too far in seeking to infiltrate environmental, animal rights and extremist groups. British authorities are already preparing a report into the use of undercover officers after one of them caused a trial to collapse when his cover was blown.

School Defends “Occupy” Song For 8-year-olds By Todd Starnes/TWITTER A Virginia school district is defending a song allegedly written and performed by a group of third graders about the Occupy Wall Street movement that conservative bloggers are calling a form of indoctrination. The song, “Part of the 99,” was performed by children at Woodbrook Elementary School in Albemarle County, Virginia. A spokesman for the school system said as far as they were concerned there isn’t a controversy and called criticism of the program unfortunate. “We really don’t censor the topics that students come up with,” school spokesman Phil Giaramita told...

I'll be honest: I just signed up today with a new name because I'm too ashamed to use the one I've been using on FR since early 2001. I'm asking for advice and prayers. I'm a single (unwillingly divorced) mother, on my own for many years. Firstborn is doing very well in life. Younger kid is 17. He has always been a good, sweet, affectionate boy. Average intelligence, but kind of held back by a learning disability. Basically a B/C student if he tries hard. His scoutmaster, who is a former Marine colonel, his JROTC commander, his employers, neighbors, other...

President Obama believes that Republican leadership of the country would ruin the United States as a land of opportunity, but he's (justifiably) confident that his daughters will have plenty of opportunities, no matter what. "Our kids are going to be fine," Obama told supporters at a campaign event last night. "[T]hey’re on a path that is going to be successful, even if the country as a whole is not successful. But that’s not our vision of America. I don't want an America where my kids are living behind walls and gates, and can’t feel a part of a country that...

This is a day old, but the site was down and I was unable to share it.My wife, Kimberly Webb Joyner, died this morning in her sleep from unknown causes. She was 41. She leaves behind two little girls she loved more than anything, Katie, who turns 3 on New Year’s Eve, and Ellie, who was born June 21. We met in August 2004 and were married on October 8, 2005. She had just turned 35 and I was a few weeks shy of 40 but neither of us had been married before. We shared religious and political worldviews but...

There are those who believe we must guard and protect children from the hurts and traumas of the big bad world for as long as possible. Then there are those people who believe we should toughen kids up by exposing them to and even pummeling them with terror and depravity. Those people become children’s filmmakers. Don't believe me? Gaze upon the list below and find a hall of horrors to give Wes Craven nightmares...

One of the two pre-teen boys charged with dropping a shopping cart over a fourth-story railing in East Harlem -- nearly killing a philanthropist who was shopping for underprivileged kids -- will be sentenced to as little as probation after pleading guilty to felony assault today. "I held the shopping cart over and I knew people was down there," 12-year-old Jiovianni Rosario said sadly, in admitting his guilt before Family Court Judge Susan Larabee. "And I knew somebody could have gotten hurt." Prosecutors say that victim Marion Hedges remains in serious condition from being struck by the cart. Hedge's family...

`1 in 8 pro-NK sites operated by elementary students` OCTOBER 31, 2011 02:02 One in eight pro-North Korea websites caught by police over the past three years was operated by an elementary school student. The students gathered materials lauding the North Korea to attract Web users. A police analysis of people caught for lauding or promoting the North since 2009 found that 37 websites were operated by elementary and middle school students, or 13.2 percent of the 281 pro-North sites that were caught and forced to close. The elementary students used writings and photos gracing North Korean leader Kim Jong...

These days, if a stuffed animal's plastic eye so much as wiggles, that toy is recalled faster than you can say "class action lawsuit." Back in the day, though, child safety consisted of just getting out of the way and letting natural selection do its thing. If a kid was too dumb to play with a toy the right way, well, he'd just have to learn to get along with one less eye. That meant molten glass, molten metal, hazardous chemicals -- all were included in toys back then ... on purpose.

Sex education will become mandatory in New York City middle and high schools next year. Students will be required to take one semester of sex education in sixth or seventh grades and one in ninth or tenth grades.

When veteran Michael Elias was serving in Iraq in 2008, he longed for the day when he could return home to his wife and two children in New Jersey. In Japan, a lack of child-custody laws means Elias, a...

Not because he didn't love to learn or because it wasn't a good school, but because he mastered new concepts so quickly that the classroom work presented no challenge. "My teachers would usually use me as a tutor for the other kids," he says, "so I was engaged in school, just not in a way that had me learning."

...celebrity blogger Perez Hilton begins his book with “He was born that way —the Boy with Pink Hair.” Parents who aren’t fans of the controversial, sometimes pink-haired Hilton don’t have much reason to get riled up about his new children’s book. It tells the simple story of a boy with bright, “cotton-candy” hair who gets bullied, makes a friend, and discovers a true passion. No, the “Boy with Pink Hair” isn’t a euphemism for “Boy with Homosexual Tendencies,” as some may fear; the book will appeal to creative kids who may have been picked on for their offbeat interests.

Security guards working at the south Tel Aviv night club targeted by a terrorist Sunday night recalled the moments of horror from their hospital beds, and said that the outcome could have been much worse had the attacker managed to enter the club. It's not quite real-life "Spy Kids" even though the adventure certainly is there. It seems a Polish private investigator, dubbed "Rambo" by fans, has found a solution to the problems created when social services workers in the Nordic countries take custody of children against the wishes of family members: Simply "kidnap" the kids and give them back to the parents. It's happened at least twice in Norway and is a stunning development for families there and in countries like Sweden, where social services workers, as WND has reported, have virtually absolute control over children once they are taken into government...

~ EXCERPT ~ There has rarely been a starker juxtaposition of evil and innocence than the moment President George W. Bush received the news about 9/11 while reading The Pet Goat with second-graders in Sarasota, Florida. Seven-year-olds can't understand what Islamic terrorism is all about. But they know when an adult's face is telling them something is very wrong — and none of the students sitting in Sandra Kay Daniels' class at Emma E. That's what would happen if Congress pares back appropriations for USAID, says Rajiv Shah: "We estimate, and I believe these are very conservative estimates, that H.R. 1 would lead to 70,000 kids dying," USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah testified before the House Appropriations State and Foreign Ops subcommittee. "Of that 70,000, 30,000 would come from malaria control programs that would have to be scaled back specifically. The other 40,000 is broken out as 24,000 would die because of a lack of support for immunizations and other investments and 16,000 would be because of a lack of skilled attendants at birth," he...

It also helps Google collect some very personal data on students K through 12.
