Eugene Robinson: Hard To Argue Obama Ire Not Based On Race (It's starting already?)
Investor's Business Daily ^ | November 1, 2010 | Eugene Robinson

Posted on 11/01/2010 4:15:09 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The first African-American president takes office, and almost immediately we see the birth of a big, passionate national movement — overwhelmingly white and lavishly funded — that tries its best to delegitimize that president, seeks to thwart his every initiative and manages to bring the discredited and moribund opposition party roaring back to life. Coincidence?

Not a chance. But also not that simple.

First, I'll state the obvious: It's not racist to criticize President Obama, it's not racist to have conservative views, and it's not racist to join the Tea Party. But there's something about the nature and tone of the most vitriolic attacks on the president that I believe is distinctive — and difficult to explain without asking whether race is playing a role.

One thing that struck me from the beginning about the Tea Party rhetoric is the idea of reclaiming something that has been taken away.

At a recent campaign rally in Paducah, Ky., Senate candidate Rand Paul, a darling of the Tea Party movement, drew thunderous applause when he said that if Republicans win, "we get to go to Washington and take back our government." Take it back from whom? Maybe he thinks it goes without saying, because he didn't say.

On Sunday, in a last-minute fundraising appeal, Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee implored his supporters to help "return American government to the American people." Again, who's in possession of the government right now, if not the American people? The non-American people? The un-American people?

There's an obvious answer, but it's one that generally comes from the progressive end of the political spectrum: Americans must fight to take back their government from the lobbyists and big-money special interests that shape our laws to suit their own interests, not for the good of the nation...

It's hard to call Eugene Robinson a real columnist.

It's not hard to call Eugene Robinson a race-baiter.

“Q: How many Social Workers does it take to change a light bulb?

A: Only one, but the light bulb has to want to change.”

Light bulbs are white. Let them be changed by their own kind.

Liberals are racists. When they talk about the President of the US being a victim of racism, you know they have jumped the shark.

They should be embarassed by this insanity but that is all they know. It is like the segregationists who totally believed the race meanings of that time. Liberals just switched their white race insanity onto diversity race insanity. They are racially obsessed people like all the racially obsessed people who came before them.

They need to be taken out of social power so they can stop driving our society crazy and hurting everybody.

He doesn't seem to be a very good mindreader.

I suspect he doesn't know any TeaPartyers and has talked to none.

He's merely projecting his own diseased mind.

When you have a lousy hand, throw down the race card (the Joker). Careful with that axe, Eugene.

Two word refutation: Jimmy Dhimmi Carter.

His policies and outcomes are the same as are Obaama's; Carter was white; and Carter got his ass kicked at the polls too.

Hey, Eugene -- get this through your skull. It's the color of Obaama's POLITICS, not his SKIN.

We don't like Reds.

Cheers!

With three trillion valid reasons to resist Obama, so far, this moron comes up with the one that never crosses a real American’s mind? Why does anyone publish Robinson’s writings?

Obama is not our first black President.

But he is our first African president. Unfortunately for him the Constitution requires that a person be a natural born American.

This is simply applying the race card to foster a guilt trip among squeamish voters and women in particular. I've heard is straight from several women that the reason they voted for Obama is they believed it would “make things better”, specifically that black people would start to like white people more due to white people voting in a black president.

Most of those women who admitted to this absurd belief now regret their vote and are either apathetic this time around or will vote Republican.

The sad part is, there are still tens of millions of voters who will vote dem simply because they believe that the dems are aligned with their personal beliefs (feelings), and most of the women I've heard this from are simply scared that Republicans will “take away their right to choose” (abortion, of course).

Our society is not going to recover for several generations.

Take it back from politicians who insist on passing legislation that the majority of American citizens are against! Only a deliberately ignorant progressive would not understand that. Stop raising taxes and threatening to raise taxes that stifle private sector growth. My gosh, what does it take for you to understand, Mr. Robinson?

Any time that someone complains that Republicans using the phrase "take our country back" is racist, show them these pictures:

Is it racist to say that Obama is an African style dictator with a similar level of competence and similar understanding of capitalism? That Obama spends lavishly on himself like an African dictator and rubs his subjects faces in it just so they know who is boss?

Hum, maybe Eugene Robinson needs to go back a review the Bill Clinton history. The Obama thing is not new.

Ditto. The man that is in the office of the President of the United States is “other”. He is foreign. Not only does he not understand what it means to be an American, HE DESPISES IT. He viscerally hates “Americanism” and seeks its destruction.
Same for those in Congress. They seek the destruction of that which IS “America”.
