ACORN files for bankruptcy
Washington Examiner ^ | Mark Hemingway

Posted on 11/02/2010 3:21:31 PM PDT by RatherBiased.com

If you’re a Republican looking for a cherry to put on top of your election sundae, here it is — pulled straight from the website of Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now:

The ongoing political onslaught caused irreparable harm. This effort was a clear attempt to cast a shadow over the historic 2008 Presidential election, and set up a far right counter offense. Through those attacks we re-tooled and re-organized. Then again came the right-wing media blitz. This time of edited videos that misrepresented our mission, and consequently misled the public. The pressure and cost of defending ourselves in multiple investigations as a result of the falsified videos has eroded our organization. As a result we will be filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy by close of business today.

We have seen this coming for some time. Our chapters closed in the first quarter of the year. We have spent our remaining resources trying to dissolve the organization with integrity, while continuing to respond to the extremist attacks. Allegations and reports will continue to try to undermine all that ACORN has done, often searching for evidence from long before I became CEO.

Thank you to all our members, supporters, funders, friends and allies who helped ACORN carve out a deep and lasting place in history. Let us all learn from the past, and march boldly into the future. ACORN will live on in the hearts of the people it served, and as those of us who fight for justice know, “THE PEOPLE UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED”.

Yeah, they said it — ACORN is “history.” I’m sure ACORN will be back, in some mutated form or another, but it’s still a significant victory for critics of the organization and its controversial tactics.

So what?

Peoples' memory must be pretty short:

Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now (ACORN) leaders are using the threat of a law suit to silence and intimidate critics, according to current and former members of the liberal activist group.

In a letter dated June 11 an attorney for ACORN advised top whistleblowers that their unauthorized use of the organization’s name could make them liable for monetary damages and injunctive relief.

ACORN executives have also changed their organization’s name, which was tarnished by investigations in at least 14 states of allegations of voter registration fraud during the 2008 presidential campaign, and charges by current and former members of financial mismanagement and misrepresentation.

The new name will let ACORN leaders continue their operations without worrying about prior bad publicity, according to Marcel Reid of ACORN 8, a group of present and former members.

In fact, the process has already begun, she noted. Wade Rathke, who founded the organization, announced on his blog that ACORN International has officially changed its name to “Community Organizations International.”

And, it appears that Community Organizations International is alive and well.

They are just unloading their debts and other baggage (including the “ACORN” name). They are now doing business under a number of different names.

Don’t be naive.

Many of us are aware of this but they have been uncoverd, robbed of a well-known brand and forced to spend mucho dinero, good will, political capital and enterprise energy fighting the good guys.

We didn't kill them but we hit them pretty d@mned hard. We won. They lost.

Careful!
Before anyone gets all excited about the demise of the losers....

ACORN is meaningless. The rats scattered into literally hundreds of holes under new and different names. I'll try to find the Soros-funded names for what used to be ACORN.

Still alive and well, and spreading the disease...

Funny how they are filing today. I guess it really the Dem defeat really is a certainty. Maybe they figure filing today just looks better than filing tomorrow.

In Pa., they spent the summer trying to help Sestak

So they’re filing for bankruptcy so they can protect the billions of dollars promised them by Obama?

.....................ACORN is meaningless. The rats scattered into literally hundreds of holes under new and different names......................

Under bankruptcy law, there is a look-back period where any funds of the bankrupt entity that appears to favor one creditor, or attempts to defraud the creditors as a whole, can be clawed back to the benefit of the general creditors.

If fraud of the bankrupt entity is indicated, the claw back period extends back many more months, if not years. (See Madoff)

I’m certain that this Acorn filing is one day after the claw back provisions expire, so all the little RAT holes can spawn new little corrupt oak saplings to drop Acorn nuggets for years into the future.

Exactly! Plus I seem to remember a similar story last year about ACORN claiming bankruptcy. The hydra can not be killed by cutting it’s head off, you must stab it’s heart.

ACORN Has now grown upto be an Oak Tree will need a Stihl Chain saw and.or a Husqvarna to cut down the sprouted ACORN - Oak. Ct down the withering Oak and shove through the wood chipper thasn burn up the chips, so it no longer can have a problem in America. Bury the ashes in the dung heap of Obummer Hopeless Change. National Democratic Socities are faltering from within - fraud corruption and greed have killed them and Obummer has helped with their demise they may go out kicking and screaming. But Obummers agenda has opened up the sleeping giant and the giant is going to stomp it out.
