“I haven’t looked at his voting record lately, I must confess, but he has been a conservative voter ... maybe he’s changed”

Nothing personal intended, but your comment is a good example of how Chet managed to keep winning. It’s critical that us conservatives FULLY understand these guys and also realize that they may well change their ways over time - in this case it was to accomplish once-in-a-lifetime opportunities (i.e., taking over health care, energy, etc.). Democrats, no matter how conservative they want people to think they are, will yield - when really pushed.

Chet could have simply switched parties in 2009, or opposed Nancy and then run as a Rep in 2010 - but he hung on...and we roped him (figuratively, of course).

We lived at Ft. Hood in 99-2001. Couldn’t believe they had a DEMOCRAT representing them! I believe the district also includes Crawford, does it not?

Yes, the 17th district of Texas includes Crawford (McLennan County, Waco is the county seat).

Young Republicans up in Waco had the moving van parked outside of Chet's office earlier today to help him move out...

No prob - it’s just that they are so good at it and manage to keep these types of people in power for so long.

A friend of mine here in Texas is a white, male, gun-toting Democrat. Needless to say, I spent hours trying to analyze him, as those types of people here are harder to find than Spotted Owls out here. I finally got inside his head and learned that his parents were union activists and he was convinced that Democrats are for the “little guy”. Simple brainwashing and very effective. When I told him that the Dems would take away his guys, he said “no way!” they would never do that. He was right, in a sense, since there were enough Republicans around to stop them - but he could never sense the threat.

Sorry to be so vociferous to a friend, but after literally 20 years of opposing this horrible congressman, I am “in a mood” ... please don’t take any offense, none meant to you ...

Chump was my congressfreak for many years before the blessed redistricting brought me the wonderful John Carter a few years ago. I don’t know how he held his seat for so stinking long!! I’ll never forget how in 2008 his Dim constituents were solidly behind Hillary...and then Chump proudly endorsed Obozo!! LOL!!!!!

Good riddance, Chet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wasn’t answering anything. Just cheering that one thing was done right and that was Chet Edwards got beat.

Now, why all the thugs that should be gone are still there? This is not good.

You have to kill a disease completely for it not to come back and we still have the disease.

That was the opinion of my very conservative Republican, Vietnam vet brother who knew Edwards personally and was deeply disappointed in his defeat. He felt that too many people simply pulled the straight ticket lever for Republicans which doomed Edwards.
