President Obama made more than 60 phone calls last night to Democrats up for reelection. As fate would have it, most of those calls were to those who lost, including outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who lost her majority.
As the night went on, the president and his aides watched candidates for whom they held out hope drown in a crimson tide.
Virginia Democrats Rick Boucher and Tom Perriello - gone. Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland - gone. Three presidential visits to Pennsylvania were not enough to save Rep. Joe Sestak's Senate campaign or five House Democrats. Another five Ohio House Democrats fell as well.
President Obama's own senate seat was won by Rep. Mark Kirk, R-Ill. Newly elected swing state governors in Ohio, Wisconsin, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Michigan will be working to help the president's 2012 opponent.
"Bloodbath," emailed one top Democrat as election returns made it clear that White House hopes to contain the damage to a 50-seat net Republican gain were for naught.
President Obama is said to be introspective about the returns, though the loss of the House was not a surprise. He will be "conciliatory" at a 1 pm ET press conference.

Not bloodbathy enough, IMO.
I am ticked that there wasn;t MORE!! Why the HELL was Harry Reid elected...Barney Frank??? Why was Sestak CLOSE?? Why was Strickland close?? ANd Calif. DISGUSTS ME!
I’m actually disappointed.
How can folks like these get re-elected?
Boxer
Brown
Deval Patrick
etc.
It’s sickening.
Overall I’m actually kind of pissed about the results.
...no he won't,narcissistic personality disorder will not allow him to be conciliatory, he'll mention the back of the bus type statement to reaffirm and commit to the destruction of the USA
The war is never over.
This was just a battle. And will keep many people here from going back to sleep.
Look at the economy in Reid’s state. It’s unfathomable he got be reelected. Can’t say for other states, but my guess is a lot of voter fraud in Nevada. I’ve never seen an incumbent (and a long, long term one, at that) of a state with that high of unemployment win reelection before. And since he’s a Senator he gets SIX more years, not just two or four. Disgusting.

Because they are in the bluest of blue states. You shouldn’t have expected anything else.
We did very well last night. Time to consolidate our gains and move on to the next targets.
That is my attitude. Now is not the time to rest, we should be hitting the Democrats relentlessly from this point on. Hold them accountable for every deal they make behind closed doors, and round two is only 24 months away.
Being a fly on the wall would have been interesting.
I wonder what was the major outcome: rage or depression.
I peg Pres. Obama as more of the rage type.
“In public and private, Mr. Obama has expressed skepticism of the genuineness of House Republicans’ desire to work in a bipartisan way, but he will proceed in a “good faith” way, an official said.”
Yep, we will work with you the same way you worked with us. Hey Zero (to quote you and show our intentions), we won the election.
I’m afraid you’re right. The man isn’t capable of being conciliatory. He’ll indicate that now he’ll blame them even more for anything and everything.
Outside of Reid, there is little reason to be pissed. If this was a Presidential year, we would have won handily. We did not make major gains in the very blue states, and I was hoping to see some more gains there from people who have realized their tts failed. Unfortunately, we didn’t see gains in those areas, but we absolutely destroyed the Dems at all levels in red and purple states. Several state houses made giant swings to the right. We won top to bottom in Penn and Wisconsin, as well as Florida, Ohio and Indiana. I would have liked to see total carnage, but we only saw partial carnage. The Reid race is the only real downer. States like CA and NY are still lost causes for at least one more cycle. It is very sad, but those states will reap what they sow. In the end we are in the majority once again nationally, and that is the most important thing. This election was about stopping the bleeding and we did that quite successfully.

I’m betting voter fraud too. And of course, the Hispanic vote. As long as those borders stay open, they don’t care if they are destroying it. Parasites don’t care about the host, they just suck the blood till it’s gone and look for another host to jump to.
California? Are you kidding me? Seriously, California is swiming in their own filth. That state, currently a trainwreck will soon become an utter basketcase.
NO FEDERAL BAILOUTS FOR CALIFORNIA! Let Gov. Moonbeam and the Union-loving Democrat-controlled statehouse bail them out.
(Will the last business leaving CA please turn off the lights.)
Well said. Let us savor our victory and not incessantly pick at one of the few remaining scabs. We are on the mend and we should rejoice in this.
Harry Reid is a Mormon. The Mormons take care of their own, even a corrupt idiot like Reid. They are the ones that disapproved but voted for him anyway.
You had one too many "m's" in there.
