Another Stunner - GOP Takes Maine Gov, House And Senate
Portland Press Herald, Maine | 11-3-10 | various

For the first time in decades, the GOP wrestled control of the Governorship, the State Senate AND the State House away from the Democrats.

Pretty amazing.

Boy, this made my morning. Even though both Democrat House Reps got re-elected, this is huge for the state.

And this morning Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins are quaking in their RINO boots... and for good reason!

Pretty sure these girls won’t stray too far from the reservation in the next two years.

in Texas, the Dems took a serious hit. The GOP now leads 99-51 in the State House. First time ever! And what with 4 new Congressional seats going to Texas, this locks in the GOP gains....

Didn't the Obamas make a big thing about vacationing in Maine this year. It's hard to keep track of all those vacations but I do remember lots of stories about lobster dinners on Mt. Desert Island.

I wonder if they're planning on going back again.

WHOA....this IS a stunner - it will be interesting to keep tabs on the RINO twins over the next 2 years and see how well-behaved they are. They SHOULD be quaking in their boots!

THIS IS A HUDGE VICTORY!!

Except for governor there are no state-wide elected officials at the state level. Maine does not have a Lt. Governor. All other state-wide officials such as Secretary of State, Attorney General etc. are selected by the legislature-actually the House and Senate meeting as one body. So whoever controls a majority of the combined bodies selects all those state positions.

THE REPUBLICAN PARTY NOW HAS A LARGE GROUP OF CANDIDATES TO RUN FOR HIGHER OFFICE IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS.

I don't believe the Republicans have held both chambers of the legislature for over 30 years maybe longer. The Republicans in Maine have now recovered from Watergate!
I think the Rats took over in 1974.

The Alabama legislature and senate went Republican for the first time in 132 years!

I'd like to see a roundup of the legislatures that flipped.

If Paul Lepage survives the recounts and lawsuits.

As for vacation suggestions. This is the guy who said he would be telling Obama to ‘go to h*ll on a regular basis.

As winter approaches, SNOWE removal starts today.

By midnight LePage established a lead in the 4000-6000 vote range (tad over 1%) and that has remained constant. As far as I can tell, it’s not yet final as 64 of the 596 precincts have yet to report. However, the big Dem/Lib/Socialist enclaves have reported so it’s probably pretty certain that Paul will prevail.

I am surprised that it is this close. Paul was consistently leading his two closest opponents by 10 points but it looks like the Dem, Mitchell, lost ground to the liberal independent Cutler.

Hopefully the rest of the returns will come in shortly.

Does this mean we might be able to get rid of Olympia next time she's up?

Are they more RINOs like Snowe and Collins? If so, not much to celebrate.

Snowe is up in 2012, Collins in 2014.

Interesting turns is that both may start acting less RINO'ish in the next 2 years, which is good news short term. I'm sure Snowe doesn't want a primary challenge. She could also retire.

However, let's not think Maine is Red just yet. We just re-elected 2 Pelosi clones in the House.

The bottom line, I guess, I'd rather have Snowe with limited influence than Fidel Castro, who would be who the Dem's could elect.

GOP Gov-Elect LePage won because the Dem dropped like a stone (20%) and the strong independent (Cutler) got 37%. If either dropped out, LePage would have gotten smoked.
