San Francisco bans Happy Meals
Los Angeles Times ^ | November 2, 2010 | Sharon Bernstein

San Francisco's board of supervisors has voted, by a veto-proof margin, to ban most of McDonald's Happy Meals as they are now served in the restaurants.

The measure will make San Francisco the first major city in the country to forbid restaurants from offering a free toy with meals that contain more than set levels of calories, sugar and fat.

The ordinance would also require restaurants to provide fruits and vegetables with all meals for children that come with toys.

"We're part of a movement that is moving forward an agenda of food justice," said Supervisor Eric Mar, who sponsored the measure. "From San Francisco to New York City, the epidemic of childhood obesity in this country is making our kids sick, particularly kids from low income neighborhoods, at an alarming rate. It's a survival issue and a day-to-day issue."

What a bunch of left wing control freaks! What is wrong with people? My state, Massachusetts, is full of these retards, who seemingly have an unshakeable electoral majority. Depressed in Massachusetts

The proper response would be for McDonalds to immediately CLOSE every outlet with that governing entity’s jurisdiction.

"Micky Ds should just leave San Fran."

Most McDonalds are owned by individuals, who work within the McDonalds franchise. That would make moving them out a little more difficult than if they were all company owned.

I don't know how many McDonalds there are in San Fran, but it's doubtful you'd get them all to shut down, as it's a good chance some of those franchise owner are rabit liberals who agree with the decision.

Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. — C.S. Lewis

“all they need to do is put some “gay friendly” toys in there and San Fran will reverse the ban.”

Doesn’t San Fran hand out free needles and condoms to addicts and the homeless? Do they still give free alcohol to drunks?

To be consistent, they should be paying government workers to hand out toys at McDonald’s rather than banning them... suddenly they are disapproving of a person’s right to choose?? Hilarious.

The Liberal mind is rather shallow, but you can always count on them to be inconsistent.

Okay, my first thought was that it had to be vote fraud but this happy meal legislation pretty much clarifies why Boxer and Brown won. Due to the concentrated populations in SF and LA, well, they really ARE that stupid.

“food justice”?!?!?!?!

The BS sirens are sounding full blast!
I can't hear anything else.

When you hear the words “food justice”
You expect Rod Serling to come out from behind a pillar and tell a story about a dystopian society.

Have we all been sucked into a portal into a parallel universe?

I think we whizzed past a sign that said, “Reality Ends Here”
