Syracuse, NY -- Republican Ann Marie Buerkle surged ahead of U.S. Rep. Dan Maffei by 659 votes this afternoon in the 25th Congressional District race after Wayne County reported its unofficial results.

Buerkle sealed her victory in the western part of the district with a convincing win in Wayne County, trouncing Maffei 15,429 (63 percent) to 9,191 (37 percent), according to returns Wayne County released at about 5:30 p.m.

Before Wayne County reported its results -- more than 20 hours after polls closed -- Maffei held on to a slim lead of about 5,600 votes from the other three counties in the district.

Do you have a list of the 11 that are too close to call? It's down to 10 now with more returns in WA-9 (trending Rat). Republican Column CA-20 R+2 IL 8 R+1 NY 25 R+2 TX 27 R+1 Rats AZ 7 D+3 AZ 8 D+1 CA 11 D+ <1(121 votes) KY 6 D+ <1 (600 votes) VA 11 D+ <1 WA 2 D+ <1 WA2 still has a good number of votes out as WA is a vote by mail state and could easily flip. I think KY6 and VA11 are going to recounts. AZ 7 and AZ 8 have significant absentee ballots to count. Not sure on the California seats or the TX seat. Most of the vote is in. AP hasn't updated the NY25 numbers.

WHOOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!!

This is a real upset and VERY welcome.

If any more rural votes are counted, they're likely to go to her, along with the absentee ballots.

They're going to HAVE to count those with this race being so close.

Prior to the release of Wayne County's preliminary results, Maffei had led Buerkle by about 3,000 votes. Now, Buerkle leads by less than 700 votes with roughly 6,000 absentee ballots remaining to be counted.

Maffei spoke to his supporters on election night, saying he was confident that he would be elected. "I'm absolutely sure that when all the votes are counted, I will be your next congressman," he said.

Buerkle, however, did not make any public comment until Wednesday. When she spoke, she did not take any on-camera questions but did say the race is far from over and she won't give up until every vote is counted. "The reason its far from over is that votes are still being counted," Buerkle said. "Until each and every one is counted, this race continues on."

Notice the difference. The arrogant elitist entitlement politician thinks he has it in the bag.

The Republican challenger isn't taking anything for granted but is going to make sure that the votes are ALL counted.

Not for all of us. I figured she’d win, but not by such a slim margin.

I hope they get those absentee ballots counted SOON. THe suspense is killing me.

This is very good news if true, Metmom. I don't even want to hope, at this point.

I’m really hoping that the absentee ballots go for her.

It’s my understanding that they tend to go Republican, which is why the dems keep trying to not count them.

I wonder if prayer can be retroactive.......

Thank you. We need it.

We’re saddled with Cuomo, Schumer, and Gillibrand.

Ugh.

This would be very welcome.

It likely won’t happen, but I’d love to break the all-time record and pick-up 73~

Now is the time to put the screws on the democrats who are left in office.

We just cleaned house, literally, and any of them who are up for re-election in 2012 ought to be sweating bullets right about now and be in a very receptive mood to their constituents demands.

Yeah! Cuomo and Schumer! Do you have rolaids! How do spell relief? Buckle up you can be in for a bumpy ride. Heaven help this state and country. What weird times we live. Thank God Nancy Pelosi will not be the leader in the House. What a weird person. But the Dollar is still devalued.

This one is a big surprise.

Why?

Upstate NY went with the wave like most GOP-leaning regions. Hayworth, Gibson, Hanna, Buerkle, even Doheny + Hoffman; Hinchey only prevailed by a narrow margin.

Buerkle’s win, if it’s confirmed, will finish the clean-up of central and western New York (well, except for that 81 yr. old democrat Rochester woman). I feel like our region has had a badly needed shower.

The AZ-7 race would be wonderful to win. Ruth McClung is an actual rocket scientist. The incumbent, Raul Grijalva, is really nothing more than a mouthpiece and hustler for the Mexican government’s push to inject illegals into the U.S.. He’s more like an ambassador for MX than he is a congressman. I detest him. Some of you have probably seen him on Hannity, although he’s only on rarely. Once you’ve heard/seen him, you never forget.

Raul is a Marxist Mexican.

Monroe county is hopeless! They keep voting for “Fast Ferry II, aka High Speed Rail” Louise Slaughter! Seriously she’s 81 years old but her mind has been lost decades ago.

I agree. It would be refreshing to get young blood and an actual rocket scientist into Congress. I am tired of all these Harvard and Yale elitist lawyers thinking that they know what’s best for us.

Grijalva is a total dolt. The moron called for a boycott of his own district. The fact his voters want to keep him in office is a testament to how suicidal Democrats are.

There should be an upper age limit for serving.

I’m not even going to print the rest of what I’m thinking......
