Portland tips scales for Kitzhaber in Oregon Gov. race; Dudley concedes

Democrat John Kitzhaber stopped short of declaring victory Wednesday, but the vote count shows he will win a history-making third term as governor, and his Republican opponent, Chris Dudley, conceded defeat.

Once again, heavily Democratic Multnomah County played the crucial role in a statewide race by delivering enough votes to swing the tally toward Kitzhaber and away from Dudley, who was coming up just short in his bid to become the first GOP governor of Oregon since 1987.

Portland screws us AGAIN!!!!!!

Perspective is good though... Even in this BLUE bastion of hippie, dope smoking libs, Chris Dudley, a former basketball star with NO former political experience, garnered 49% of the vote. The minor party candidates screwed us too. Constitution party got 20,000 and the Libertarian got 17,000...

BUT the GREAT news is, we PICKED-UP 6 house seats to tie the Rep. count at 30-30!!!! AND we PICKED-UP 2 Senate seats. Now 16 (D) - 14 (R)

With Kissknober back in office GRIDLOCK is GREAT!!!!!

I have to say though, I feel like Dennis Miller who said on O'Reilly tonight (since he is from CA)... "I feel like the kid at Christmas who got the crappy beige sweated with the white dickie, while all my friends got a new GI Joe".

Liberalism truly is a disease!!!

No Republican will ever win on the Left Coast again - unless the unions decide the Democrats mess things up bad enough to put a Republican in to keep the seat warm for the new Democratic replacement.

Like Seattle, Portland will make sure that enough votes are manufactured in a close election to deliver it to the fascist left.

This will be fun to watch. The Oregon House is split 50/50.

And the Oregon Senate is split 50/50.

Kitz will get nothing done at all.

I don’t even think he will be able to raise taxes. LOL!

Oregon has been a dead growth state for a long time. The only reason it doesn’t stand out more as a bad example of how to run a state is because so many others have the same problems.

It sucks watching the middle of the country grow from my perch, knowing they have it figured out.

Gridlock is the best we can hope for here. I’m not optimistic for any new private sector jobs though... too bad. We’re going to become a welfare state like California if this keeps up.

** We’re going to become a welfare state like California if this keeps up.**

Really sad, the dimocrats just don’t get the idea of private enterprise, entrepeneurship, do they?

Do you think there will be recount?

Less than one percent margin win???????

Oregon has been thoroughly californicated.

I was born here and years ago Oregon was known to be “different” well, it’s succumbed and is now just an extension of northern california.

Sad but true.

Only when it is within 3,000 votes. Dudley could pay for one, but he already conceded. it’s such a shame!

He was going to try to revive the timber industry and drill offshore.

Have you heard what Kitzhaber’s plan is??? This is serious.

He is going to borrow millions to employ (probably public workers) to weatherize all of Oregon’s schools and make up the deficit with the enrgy savings. I am NOT kidding!

Oregon is a screwup state ....my dtr just moved there and loves Portland but thats because she is young with no children and her and her husband can live it up.....

but soon enough they will feel the oppressive tax burden....the quicker the better...

they have a state income tax, they have those funny guys who MUST pump your gas, you can only go 65mph on a 4 lane highway along the gorge with vast open areas, and their property taxes are spiralling up ....

Statist....enjoy your rewards....

He is as brilliant as Wily Coyote in cowboy boots. When I heard his “amazing” idea in the debate I could not believe how stupid it was.

I don't know how the folks in Roseburg can stand his pompous ass.

OMG - I never heard about Kitzhaber’s plan. OMG

I work with some really smart people who today were talking about Dudley being a nice guy but no experience at all. These are higher level accountants and they voted for someone who would propose this???

My legal residence is in WA so I didn’t pay a ton of attention to Oregon...ignorance is bliss.

I was born in Portland and love it here but I really ought to sell my place here before it loses any more equity and go to Seattle.

Stupid idiots have ruined a perfectly nice place to live.
