In the next two years, if all we end up doing is adopting some tax hikes here, some Obama-agenda compromises there, and a thousand little measures that do nothing to get us out of the economic mess we’re in, the same voters that put the GOP in office will vote them out in the next election. If that happens, the story of 2012 may well be that of the GOP going the way of the Whigs.

Election doesn’t end major discord for GOP, Obama
By CHARLES BABINGTON, Associated Press

WASHINGTON – Barely an hour after President Barack Obama invited congressional Republicans to post-election talks to work together on major issues, the Senate’s GOP leader had a blunt message: His party’s main goal is denying Obama re-election.

In a sign that combat and the 2012 elections rather than compromise could mark the next two years, Sen. Mitch McConnell on Thursday called for Senate votes to repeal or erode Obama’s signature health care law, to cut spending and to shrink government.

“The only way to do all these things it is to put someone in the White House who won’t veto any of these things,” McConnell said in a speech to the conservative Heritage Foundation.

The Senate Republican leader’s confrontational tone was in sharp contrast to the posture Obama took Wednesday in the face of a new GOP-controlled House and Republican gains in the Senate. Obama followed up Thursday morning by inviting Republican and Democratic congressional leaders for talks on Nov. 18 and challenging his own Cabinet to make Washington work better.

“I want us to talk substantively about how we can move the American people’s agenda forward,” Obama said of the upcoming meeting with lawmakers. “It’s not just going to be a photo op.”

"Another important lesson is that we will need the mother of all GOTV efforts if we wish to win in 2012. Sending donations isn’t enough when push comes to shove. Millions of boots on the ground are needed, and voter-fraud prevention must be addressed before election eve."

IMO, the dimocreeps are going to ratchet up the voter fraud unless we stop them and legally shackle them to the point where our elections are free and honest again. Many of the dims are in office because someone "found" some ballots somewhere when the dim was losing. Or, as in San Francisco when I was living in Benicia, someone found a huge box of Republican ballots floating in the Bay after the election was certified.

"Certainly we can and should back sensible center-right candidates in bluer states, but I see no point in backing someone who supports cap-and-tax, Obamacare, bailouts, taxes, and more useless stimulus packages. If you think such a candidate will be with us when it comes time to vote down an Obama Supreme Court nominee, you’re living on a unicorn ranch in fantasy land."

Not that I've read, and I have read her book. This is astute analysis regardless of whose pen it came from. It appears that some of her self-admitted rough spots with respect to public communication are being polished. And she had a very good election.

This is, after all, a private citizen with a Facebook account, and she's practicing some very artful politics at the moment. Fun to watch even if you're not one of her fans.

Boehner and McConnell should take Joe Wilson along with them and sit him squarely across the table from Obama.

It seems some of you don’t read any of her Facebook Notes if you think this is unusual writing.

For that matter, did you read her earlier NRO piece about energy?

Or her WSJ OpEd on Cap & Tax that took out John Kerry with a single swat?
