Bachmann bid for GOP leadership gets cool reaction (Boehner about to pull a 'boner' ?)

WASHINGTON – Self-proclaimed tea party leader Michele Bachmann's bid for a top Republican post in the House received a cool reaction Thursday from Speaker-to-be John Boehner, an early test of how GOP leaders will treat the antiestablishment movement's winners in Tuesday's elections.

"Constitutional conservatives deserve a loud and clear voice in leadership!" Bachmann, R-Minn., who founded the Tea Party Caucus, said in a one-paragraph Facebook announcement that she is running for GOP conference chairman.

House Republican leaders don't disagree. But that doesn't mean they want the hyperbolic Bachmann being a spokeswoman for the new majority during the 2012 election cycle.

Boehner, aware of the role tea partiers played in making him the next House speaker, is endorsing no one. His lieutenants are lining up behind Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas, leaving no doubt that Hensarling — and not Bachmann — is the leadership favorite to chair the GOP conference.

"There are few who have done as much for the Republican team as Jeb," the expected House majority leader, Eric Cantor of Virginia, said in a statement.

There are a lot of people here on FreeRepublic who are easily led around by the nose by the media. They claim they don't trust the media, but then fall for every lying word they see printed.

I really don't know how many of them are real Freepers and how many of them are dem operatives trying to pretend to be Freepers.

“Boehner isn’t quoted in the whole article. It’s Cantor that talked about the team.”

THAT’S RIGHT!!!

It is a B.S story by the AP!

Experience counts, doesnt it? Washington is very different...Tea party will have it’s say but there is professional decorum. We might not get this, but like the song says:
I’m just a bill.
Yes, I’m only a bill.
And I’m sitting here on Capitol Hill.
Well, it’s a long, long journey
To the capital city.
It’s a long, long wait
While I’m sitting in committee,
But I know I’ll be a law someday
At least I hope and pray that I will,
But today I am still just a bill.

There is a lot to governing, stuff I dont think we quite get and frankly care too, but we have got to trust those we just sent up there to do the work.... it will be different this time...but do not think we are going to have it go our way 100%. Its just not going to happen.

I know there is a lot to governing, and you didn’t answer my question about establishment in leadership..and it’s not like Bachamann at this point is a “rookie” freshman?!

Read all the posts and the article plus one supporting article and there seems to be some confusion amongst those posting. So, to recap: There are 4 House leadership positions being considered. Michelle Bachmann is NOT seeking the Speakership position; she is seeking the #4 position (least powerful of the 4 positions). All those that seem to have the inside track for the 4 positions are male, GOP “insiders” and do not appear to have been part of the Tea Party movement as best I can tell.

Given that scenario, IMHO, it seems appropriate that either Bachmann or someone closely associated w/the Tea Party Movement should get at least one of the 4 positions. Based upon the amount of time, talent, effort, organizational skill and fund raising ability contributed by Republican/Tea Party women in this past election, it would also seem very wise to give strong consideration to qualified women candidates.

(For the record, I am a male and philosophically opposed to “quota-filling,” identity politics; however, I do believe there is exceptional female talent available in the Republican Party; and it should be recognized, encouraged and cultivated.)

Here's a thought for Boehner:

If you PO enough of the TEA party congressmen, they could become Independents (or a third, TEA Party), leaving the RATS with the majority & the Speaker-ship.

Boner rode the same wave that brought the establishment ‘pubs to today. It was the TEA Party that provided that wave. If he isn’t inclusive....he should get on his board and ride back out to sea.....

Many were shocked by Bonie’s blubbering on television. Why?

What must happen over the next year will require the hutzpah of a man in the mold of Tom DeLay, and we know it!

Boener does NOT fill that bill, now you can bet that even as we speak, some in the Republican Caucus are preparing to challenge his otherwise presumed unanimous selection.

Mark my words. The Dems will play Boener like a fiddle, and he will fold on issues that need hard lines maintained. This has been the pattern of establishment Republicans, and we do not need any more of it.They sell out the people.

BTW, I always seem to have trouble spelling progressive politicians names. I just can’t figure why.

The GOP is where it is today because of the conservative vote. And we demand a conservative speaker of the house.

Boener just won’t cut it:

1)

Rep. John A. Boehner’s vote last month against a bill cracking down on illegal immigration is sending “tremors” through the House Republican Conference as the Ohio lawmaker pushes his candidacy for House majority leader.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2006/jan/11/20060111-121934-8017r/

2)
John Boehner Shows His RINO Stripes As He Hints at Bush Tax Cut Deal with Obama

http://www.zimbio.com/John+Boehner/articles/ugmzQJARQW2/John+Boehner+Shows+RINO+Stripes+Hints+Bush

3)
Boehner is leading the charge to de-fund ACORN, but in the same breath he is willing to support the campaign of this alleged Republican, Dede Scozzafava:

http://www.moonbattery.com/archives/2009/10/grim_rino_tales.html

4)

BOEHNER: RAISE SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT AGE TO 70

5) Dick Armey Backs Boehner’s Strategy On Tax Cuts (Armey racking up RINO chits today)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2588320/posts

And I could post another 30 links.

WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!

We want and need a conservative speaker with backbone, and the inflexible will to forward the conservative agenda of Death Care repeal and tax cuts. Boener is not the man for the job.His record clearly shows that.Eric Chantor is no better.

One of these Republican leaders would do MUCH better:

Paul Ryan

Darrell Issa

Marsha Blackburn

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-11622774

Now progressives can waive your bi-partisan wand for Boener all you want. It will not change his record. And for same reason you do not understand that every time Republicans achieve power they knuckle under to the Dems bi partisan meme. WHY? Power is meant to be exercised on behalf of conservative voters who fueled this win, and no need to apologize either.

The dems are afraid that they will get some of their own medicine and they fear the conservative agenda. Republicans were LOCKED OUT of the legislative conference on death care. Pelosi even changed the locks on the congressional conference room doors to keep Republicans out, and now the Dems plead for bi partisanship?

Buahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

We need to exercise some authority and unity to get the conservative agenda done.Boener and Chantor will not do that IMHO.

ITS TIME!!!

WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!

Boehner is NOT one of our guys. No matter how much he mouths the right things, he is an old line party pol and big government Republican. He believes in personal perks over any sort of principle. So long as it suits his own position he is a Conservative but he cannot be counted on to make proper appointments. Doesn’t Senate Majority Leader need election?

They are liberals who think the COnservative cause is
redefineable, like it was in 2004.

( They are quainit, we have to patronize and ridicule them
meme.)

THOSE DAYS ARE OVER. CONSERVATIVES WON THIS LAST ELECTION.

And we will not be denied representative power in committees in Congress. We also deserve the speakership.
It should be Jack Ryan,Marsha Blackburn or even Darryl Issa.

Prpgressives are the bane of the Republican party, which needs regular enemas to purge the little liberal cranks!

Most of them are pea brains, little talking-point repeater ditto heads for the MSM.

So for Bohner has been a stauch conservative. I see no reason to demand that Bachman replace him. She's great, but you have to be up on all the rules, know who can be trusted to write the laws in a manner that will help and not hurt, who can figure out how to legally get rid of that freaken Obamacare bill, how to outsmart them not just verbally, but to be able to tie them into knots.

I'm very upset that so many here are willing to throw over a good man just because he's not a show horse.

Bachman is great and I love her but we have to be very careful who we are throwing under the bus just because we haven't seen him on TV.

negative. Boehner has represented the 8th district of Ohio for 20 years. His presence in congress has NOTHING to do with the tea party. Incidentally, he was also instrumental in engineering the 1994 Republican revolution which was largely attributed to Newt Gingrich.

There's no need to lump Boehner in with the likes of McStain and Grahmnesty. He's a true conservative and has a 20 year record that supports his conservative credibility unlike any tea party candidate. I'm not anti-tea party or anti-Bachmann but I do think the tea party is overstating its importance in this election cycle, especially considering that they appear to have lost 2/3 of their races in the house and 1/2 of their senate races.

I really like her as well, but I do agree these positions must be determined carefully...our hand will be played against those who we know have “insiders” to tow the line for them....there are many new faces going to Washington and there must be seasoned ones to show the way and inform them of the landmines. Not that she isn't aware...but I think Boehner might very well do the job...still, I'd like to see her somewhere among them that carries some weight.
