Conservative Recount Alert! Etheridge Asks for Recount by renee on November 4, 2010 in Campaign Announcements
Dear Supporters, http://www.reneeforcongress.com/landing-pages/help-our-recount-effort
Election night, after the ten counties in my district had reported their votes, I led Bob Etheridge by 2,100 votes. (That number is crucial because under North Carolina law Congressman Etheridge is not entitled to an automatic recount if he trails by more than 1% or 1,888 votes.)
Then, yesterday afternoon unexpectedly the vote totals changed. The State Board of Elections reported my lead had dropped to 1,600 votes. Two hours later Bob Etheridge announced he intended to call for a recount.
As a result, last night my campaign began hiring attorneys eleven attorneys in all. One in each county to monitor each recount and an attorney to work with the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
Right now, our best estimate of the minimum cost we face is $50,000. But, of course, my campaign spent every penny we had before the election.
Yesterday, we appealed to the National Republican Congressional Committee for support, asking if they could contribute to help pay the costs of this recount. Their answer, unfortunately, was, No that we would have to raise the money to pay for the recount ourselves.
I was afraid that would be their answer. Months ago, I went to Washington and asked the National Republican Congressional Committee and many conservative leaders to help my campaign. Many conservative groups like the Susan B. Anthony List, Concerned Women of America, Freedom Works, and Sarah Palins Sarah PAC all helped, but the NRCC declined. Later, they did support other campaigns in North Carolina which, unfortunately, lost but we never received their support. In fact, their spokesman told the press that the campaign wasnt ready for prime time which actually made it even harder for us to raise money. So, I am doubtful we will get support from the NRCC to help with the expense of the recount.
Right now, I lead Bob Etheridge by 1,600 votes. That lead should hold up. But we cant take anything for granted. We must leave no stone unturned to insure a fair recount. We cannot allow the kind of mishap that happened in Minnesota when Al Franken was elected to repeat itself in North Carolina.
This morning my campaign manager set up a special fund Renee Ellmers for Congress Recount Fund to pay for the recount. I never dreamed Id be asking you for another donation two days after the election but I need to raise $50,000 yesterday. The maximum you may give is $2,400. Each contribution whatever the amount, whether its $25, $250, or $500 is crucial and will be deeply appreciated. Could you send a donation and mail it today? Or, better still, click here, to give on my website.
I apologize for asking for another gift so soon but I am sure you understand.
As ever, thank you and best wishes.
Renee Ellmers
Keep on them about all races, Joe Walsh in Illinois, New York 25, Virginia 11, Kentucky, Texas 27, Arizona 8, 2 in California, Washington.
They should have teams for all close races on the ground and helping candidates.
The NRCC gave her 10,000.00 according to riehl world a couple of hours ago. I emailed and called earlier.
let’s see, GOP morons can sink hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars into losing campaigns, but can’t come up with $50K to protect a VICTORY that has already been won?
This should be one of the fundamental priorities of any national party organization, to deploy resources and legal experts right after an election to protect actual victories which have already been won!!!
This is what pisses me off with these clowns, they want Republican candidates who are slightly behind to quit and concede and when there candidates are ahead they seem to care less if they keep the seat they’ve already won.
Like I told people on election day, gotta elect every single Republican possible to destroy Obama’s agenda, will deal with the GOP elitist idiots later..well, now that time has come, time to take care of these clowns who would rather support some RINO a-hole then support a TRUE Conservative..makes me sick to read stuff like this. Ellmers needs our help and the damn RNCC won’t even help..elitist bastards!
We need to take the soul of the Republican party.
Why in the sam hill aren't they paying for the whole thing?
Please re-post in the morning — very few will see this so late at night...
Oh, and BTW, the NRCC and NRSC are dead to me...
“We need to take the soul of the Republican party.”
We ARE the soul of the Republican party...
All that would have to happen is Glenn and Rush mention it and where to donate, even off handedly, and she’ll have the money in an hour.
Maybe so, but why aren’t they willing to foot the bill?
I’m reminded of Christine O’Donnell, and the fact that even her own state GOP org didn’t help out with her election bid.
Not to mention the fact the NRSC was almost absent.
I’m puzzled as to why the establishment Republicans aren’t willing to help out those elected candidates with whom they disagree.
They’re not helping Joe Miller, either.
Whoah you?
Bumping your post!

However...I take issue with one thing...they are “Corrupt” bastards. ;o)
It’s real simple, if Ken Buck, Sharron Angle, Joe Miller, and Christine O’Donnell would have been victorious they would be in position to be supported as Incumbents in 2016.
We can’t have that, real Conservatives who are going to try to stop Obama’s agenda. We just want to modify and sound bipartisan.
They need to help her big time.
Okie dokie...I think I know what you are trying to convey, and I don’t disagree with it whatsoever.
“We cant have that, real Conservatives who are going to try to stop Obamas agenda. We just want to modify and sound bipartisan.”
Lindsay Graham, Orrin Hatch...et all...you are on notice.
