Senate GOP Leader McConnell Pledges Guerrilla Warfare to ‘Eliminate’ ObamaCare
CNS News ^ | 11/4/2010 | Matt Cover

(CNSNews.com) - Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) pledged that Republicans will do everything they can to roll back and “eliminate” the unpopular health care reform legislation that President Barack Obama signed into law in March, including taking it apart piece-by-piece if necessary.

McConnell, speaking at the conservative Heritage Foundation on Thursday, said that Republicans in both chambers of Congress would attempt to repeal the bill in its entirety. Should that effort fail, Republicans will then turn to guerrilla tactics to stop the unpopular legislation.

“On health care, that means we can, and should, propose and vote on straight repeal, repeatedly,” said McConnell. “But we can’t expect the president to sign it.”

“So we’ll also have to work, in the House, on denying funds for implementation and, in the Senate, on votes against its most egregious provisions,” he said. “At the same time, we’ll need to continue educating the public about the ill-effects of this bill on individuals young and old, families, and small businesses.”

McConnell spoke directly about the Republicans’ limited ability to get rid of the new law, highlighting that Democrats still control the Senate and Obama is still president. McConnell sought to explain that Republicans will do what they can to carry out the mandate of Tuesday’s midterm victories while injecting a dose of “realism” into GOP exuberance.

“Today, Democrats not only have the White House,” said McConnell. “They have the Senate too. So we have to be realistic about what we can and cannot achieve, while at the same recognizing that realism should never be confused with capitulation.”

McConnell – recognizing that electoral victories may not translate into legislative victories -- said Republicans would use oversight and obstruction to prevent any back-door attempt to implement left-wing policies that he claimed the public had rejected.

“We may not be able to bring about straight repeal in the next two years, and we may not win every vote against targeted provisions, even though we should have bipartisan support for some,” said McConnell. “But we can compel administration officials to attempt to defend this indefensible health spending bill and other costly, government-driven measures, like the stimulus [spending] and financial reform.

“Through oversight we’ll also keep a spotlight on the various agencies the administration will now use to advance through regulation what it can’t through legislation,” said McConnell. “Potential backdoor efforts in this area could include imposing a new national energy tax through the EPA now that cap-and-trade is dead; additional health care provisions through HHS; Card Check through the National Labor Relations Board; and some form of immigration change through the use of administrative amnesty and the selective enforcement of our laws.”

McConnell also said that Republicans would “stop the liberal onslaught” by trying to eliminate the new health care law, cut spending, and by opposing “loudly” any further attempts at stimulus spending.

“We will stop the liberal onslaught,” he said. “We will make the case for repeal of the health spending bill even as we vote to eliminate its worst parts. We will vote to freeze and cut discretionary spending. We will fight to make sure that any spending bill that reaches the Senate floor is amendable, so members can vote for the spending cuts Americans are asking for. We will push to bring up and vote for House passed spending rescission bills.”

“On the economy, we will work hard to ensure Democrats don’t raise taxes on anybody, especially in the middle of a recession. We will loudly oppose future stimulus bills that only stimulate the deficit and fight any further job-killing regulations. We will fight tooth and nail on behalf of Americans struggling to find and create jobs.”

In an obvious ode to Tea Party criticisms of Republicans’ past performance, McConnell said that the new Republican contingent would focus on doing a “few things well” rather than trying to “re-engineer” society.

“Another obstacle is the temptation to over-read our task. It’s my view that Americans are no more interested in a Republican plan for using government to reengineer society than they were in the Democrats’ plan to do so. Government has limits, thank heavens, and voters want us to respect them. That’s why Republicans will focus on doing a few things well.”

Really, if the Supreme Court strikes down the part that requires everyone to have insurance, ObamaKare is dead in the water.

And given the way he rubbed their faces in it at the last SOTU session, Obama probably doesn’t have majority sympathy on the SC right now.

How about guerilla warfare on a new tax cut?

On amnesty?

On spending?

On the elimination of government unions and government jobs?

I’m elated that the republicans took the House, but not so long ago they held all three branches and wiped their collective ass with the opportunity to really do some lasting good. As for the current promises... I’ll believe it when I see it.

With the Republicans in control of only the House, I don’t see how any deconstructing of the Obama health care can happen. Please explain to me how anything can be accomplished.

They may have the Senate and the White House but if doesn’t make out of the Congress it won’t matter.

That is the floor for negotiations and where we at least have the power of the purse.

Barry Fauxbama can carp all he wants but if the economy doesn’t improve it will be a direct of his onerous commitment to a personal ideology that has it’s roots in third world aspirations.

We can like McConnell’s talk but his walk has often angered us.

Conservatives in Congress need to remind the Vichy class of both parties that they are headed for the slaughterhouse in 2012.

If McConnell wants to exude his sense of political realism on the rest of us, then I suggest he feel the real kick of our boots to his rump in 2012.

‘Realism’ is a code word for appeasement.

We care not in counting votes in the Senate or the veto of the fraudulent commander in chief, we care for the intensity of our drama and its message to the ruling class.

If McConnell thinks he can pacify us, the politically incorrect, the extremists, the out-of-tounch with ‘realism’ zealots, with lip service to the direction of his wind, then he will join the ranks of Utah’s Bennett.

In the next years there best be no compromise, no hint of compromise, no overtures to bipartisanship. It matters not the issue; taxes, Obamafraud, Cardshake and cap crap. What matters is to purge the ruling class and leave history to warn newcomers their heads will be put on the chopping block if they don’t engage passionately to fight 24/7 for a return to our Constitutional origins.

They best they might be able to do is starve Obozocare of funding to implement it. This would put it off until another election happens and Obozo is gone.

We still want them to keep putting a bill for total repeal on Obpozo’s desk. let him keep vetoing it and record each time he does.

**********************************************************************

Do you understand what McConnell means by the term Re-engineer Society? That’s what the rats have been doing since bumer got elected. McConnell’s putting the brakes on that. As to the statement you made above...that is EXACTLY the point of McConnell’s speech. That’s what he says he wants to do.

I’m not defending the RINO’s track record in the Senate but we need to dial down our expectations here a little bit or we’re going to be sorely disappointed. Guerilla warfare against obama’s agenda is about the best we can hope for at this point...unless you have a secret plan to get 67 votes in the Senate to override obama’s vetoes. If you do I’d love to hear it.

We need to oppose the left’s agenda every way we can . Put the votes to the floor to cut taxes, make the Bush tax rates permanent, repeal obamacare, lock up the Czar’s in oversight and investigations...make the left become the Party of no. Just inderstand that there are real and legitimate limitations to what the good guys can do here.

Your view is held by many in the election’s aftermath and it is a wrong view.

Gorilla warfare are two words to emote a sense of fighting when in reality it will be a series of legislative amendments to ‘fix’ Obamacare.

Instead, McConnell should muster his Republican repeal votes and the votes of scared dems to a majority, not for the purpose of passing repeal, but for the purpose of political advertising to eject Obama or any dem candidate in 2012. Then 67 votes for repeal will not be needed.

But...but if the amendments to ‘fix’ Obamascam are processed, the voting public public may well suffer a delusion of victory and be pacified enough to allow reelection of Obama or Hillary etc.

Do not accept McConnell’s political ‘realism’ under any circumstances. He is always retreating to ‘realism’ to justify his later RINO behavior. And make no doubt he will compromise in the name of ‘realism’.

The purpose is not to be realistic in ‘passing’ legislation. The purpose is to pass nothing and to use powers to defund and to oversee and block Obama end runs.

Once again, the objective here is not to ‘pass’ legislation or amendments but to defund and block.

So McConnell’s premise is to inject a dose of ‘realism’ to our hot-headed yelping, when in effect we care not for the realism of passing legislation, because we are not interested at this point in passing any legislation. We are interested in kicking both Republicans and Democrats out of office in 2012. And if we are successful in Wave II of 2012, then we can think of passing real conservative legislation.

Here on FR?.. Im tired of being disappointed.. it sucks..
Guerilla warfare is what Im talking about.. if me and Mitch are on the page.. GOOD..
If NOT, trying to herd cats is a mistake..

The House CAN pass a lot of simple one or two page legislation and overwhelm the Senate and White House..
NO behemoth unreadable bills but simple stuff the stuff Americans can read and understand..
ALL posted on a website provided by the House of Reps.. legislation used as propaganda..

Boner can and should DO what the President said HE would do but didnt..
Make the House of Reps. Transparent.. on C-Span, on the internet.. even with some email from a House blog.. The MsM will not publish all this so the "House" can do it themselves..

MAybe McConnell has an inclination on a couple Democrat Seantors that are willing to come over to our side. Of course they will be cancelled out by Snowe and Collins. So back to the original point - we have a couple Senators that need to be primaried.

We’re in complete agreement. I’d attach an amendment repealing obama care to every piece of legislation that moves out of the House. Obama’s going to veto them but that’s ok as long as our guys are painting him as the obstructionist. The democraots as the Party of NO and remind folks that they are acting against the stated will of the people. Every damned day. But look around...alot of folks on FR expect obamacare to be repealed by February...and if it’s not they’re going to denounce the whole Capital Hill bunch as RINO’s and give up on them.

Right now we can fight obama, we can investigate his administration and we can make him defend every veto he casts. And I expect our guys to do that...
