Republicans to put Barney Frank, bailouts under microscope
Boston Herald ^ | Nov 5, 2010 | By Dave Wedge

Barney Frank — a fading Capitol Hill power broker — will return to Washington stripped of his committee clout and wearing a target on his back as top Republicans vow to probe mortgage giants bailed out by taxpayers on the Newton Democrat’s watch.

“I think there’s a responsibility to get down to the errors in judgment which helped create the current financial crisis,” said U.S. Rep. Ed Royce, a California Republican set to become a leader on the powerful Financial Services Committee chaired by Frank. “The fact that Congress was repeatedly warned by the regulators . . . requires vigorous congressional oversight and investigation, lest we repeat the mistakes of the past.”

Just this week, Freddie Mac posted a $4.1 billion third-quarter loss because of the slumping housing market. The taxpayer-funded bailout of the two behemoths could end up costing more than $250 billion.

Asked about a potential GOP probe of the lenders, Frank told the Herald: “I’m all for it. It’s very different from before 2008 and after.”

Barney and probe should not be used in the same sentence!

How about the errors in motivation? You know, like criminal intent.

Republicans should open as many investigative fronts as they can against the Dems’ policies over the past few years. Keep them busy shredding documents and spinning like Tazmanian devils, while the Repubs start their own legislative efforts to undo the harm these policies have caused. It’s an opportunity to teach the electorate the dangers of liberalism.

Saw a clip this morning of Pres. Bush hawking his book on Oprah. She asked why he didn’t do anything to prevent the financial collapse and he said, “I tried.” That was the end of the clip. I’ll bet he didn’t say that Barney Frank poo-pooed Bush’s suggestion that Freddie and Fannie were in trouble and nothing was done about their corrupt practices.
Frank needs to be grilled in front of his own committee and my dream is to see this toad frog-marched out of his office to a waiting police car.

If there were ever an event in American history that was crying out for a truly independent Special Prosecutor it's the current financial meltdown/housing/mortgage/banking crisis.

The people in those industries AND the ones in Government at all levels who caused this need to be publicly exposed, prosecuted, and imprisoned. Frank, Dodd, and the rest are directly responsible for the damage to the US economy and they need to be brought to account.

There’s so much incriminating stuff that he’s said on tape, in his mega arrogance that a microscope shouldn’t even be necessary.
