Rachel Maddow on suspended Keith Olbermann: MSNBC should reinstate him
New York Daily News ^ | 6 November 2010 | Christina Boyle

Rachel Maddow came to the defense of her suspended MSNBC colleague Keith Olbermann, saying network chiefs have made their point and the "Countdown" host should be reinstated.

Maddow also sought to dispel claims that MSNBC is a left-wing version of Fox News, saying the Murdoch-owned broadcaster has a history of "not just giving money to candidates, but actively endorsing campaigns and raising millions of dollars for politicians and political parties."

"Their network is run as a political operation. Ours isn't," Maddow said during the final segment of her show Friday. "Yeah, Keith's a liberal, and so am I. But we're not a political operation - Fox is. We're a news operation."

Maddow added that the rules surrounding political contributions "are part of how you know that."

All it took was for a news outlet to come along and start reporting what was being buried for decades and it became a fly in the ointment. Then the Internet really took off...just look at the hits ...of sites like the Drudge Report and the ratings of Fox News...there simply is a large amount of people out there who search for differing views than the same echo chamber we see and hear every day from NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, NPR, CNN, MSNBC, BBC, Current, etc...

When you add up the total viewership of all of those channels in comparison to what Fox News gets...why are they concerned so much with what Fox News has to say? Clearly more people get their news from those other outlets combined!

They go after Fox News because Fox News blew the lid off and continues to blow the lid off of the bias and the b.s. the other outlets feed the world every single day.

How about the fact that Lawrence O’Donnel came out on Morning Joe yesterday and admitted that he isn’t a liberal, a progressive, or blue dog Democrat...but a full extreme to the left Socialist? What balance does MSNBC have? ED Schultz - Pro...gressive Liberal, Keith Olbermann - Progressive Liberal, Racahel Maddow - Progressive Liberal, Chris Matthews - Liberal Democrat, Eugene Robinson - Progressive Liberal, Jeffrey Immelt - Progressive Liberal, Mika - Progressive Liberal...I can go on and on and on all day long. MSNBC is nothing but a propaganda arm for Socialists, Marxists, Progressives, and Liberals.

Actually, a few that I know get all their NEWS from Keith. I do believe they ARE that stupid. But, you’re right, surely most are not?

The majority of liberals I know get all their news from Jon Stewart, which if you think about it is just a different choice of clown. The fact that liberals obtain the majority of their "news" from a clown or a comedian is rather sad, but it explains much in how ill informed liberals are.

"Yeah, Keith's a liberal, and so am I.

Hardly. Both you and he are radicals, leftist extremists, falling well beyond the range of liberalism.

I think it’s easier to mimic a clown than to listen and assimilate real information and then come up with your own opinions.

One must divulge to their employer which candidates they give money?

Not you, but at MSNBC apparently so. Otherwise, Olberdork could give much more free air time to his favorites, without the boss knowing about it, which could influence an election. I'm sure MSNBC doesn't want to be tinged with that allegation so they include it in their contracts.

If you sign a contract and blow it, you can get canned. Olberdork, as BRILLIANT as he is, should've known that.

If he was just a commentator than that would be one thing but he was hosting the election coverage. Of course, it's ridiculous that Olbermann was doing that in the first place. However, in my estimation someone in that position shouldn't be giving money to candidates.

If she’s sooooo liberal, why does she try to look like Sean Hannity?

isn’t her claim to fame that she was the person who mowed the lawn for some important lesbian who took her in and made her what she is today— a nobody?

Are these network execs gonna stand for this insubordination? Why, it they had any backbone, they would suspend Maddow too!

I agree. Why make a martyr out of him? We all know he’s part of The Professional Left.

I'd hardly call him Professional. He is a whiner and crybaby, who doesn't have an original thought in his body. While I'm not going to suggest political commentators have to have a specific education, or background, it amazes me that of the two major political contributors on MSNBC, one is a former sports commentator, and the other is a pest eradicator.

It’s a stupid rule that MSNBC employees cannot donate to candidates.

I once worked at a place where I didn't like the rules, I disliked them so much that eventually I quit. Olbermann had the same option.

Condescending, smirking, angry people seem to be in MSNBC’s job requirements. In that and that alone, they are successful.

It’s a stupid rule that MSNBC employees cannot donate to candidates.

The reason for this rule ( that they must clear donations with MSNBC) is clearly to make sure no one donates to Republicans or Conservatives.. no doubt KO has donated in the past.. and no one said anything.. so he had every reason to think it would be fine this time.. EXCEPT they want to get rid of him now.. no one takes anything he says seriously .. so they can not even pretend he has substance.. Bye Bye keith !

Hey,Rachel, how about this--why don't you and Keith really show the courage of your convictions and leave behind all those MSNBC millions and go for a start-up liberal broadcasting radio station? Call it Air America.

Awwww that was below the belt.. LOL

Little know fact: No one has ever seen Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann in the same room together.

I'm just sayin'...
