GOP Gov. Christie: 'It's put up or shut up time for our party' By Hannah Brenton - 11/07/10 12:38 PM ET

New Jersey’s Republican governor Chris Christie told NBC’s "Meet the Press" today: “It's put up or shut up time for our party.”

Christie said Republicans had to stick by their election pledges to cut spending and downsize government: “We have to do what we said we’d do or be sent to the wilderness.”

The New Jersey governor argued his state is leading the way in curtailing spending: “We’ve made real hard decisions. We’ve cut spending we would have liked to have kept, but we’re broke!

“We’re showing Washington how it’s done,” he added.

Christie said there needs to be a credible plan to cut spending or “The public’s going to smell it really quickly if it’s not credible.”

Christie campaigned for candidates across the country this election cycle, including endorsing Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.) for the Republican nomination in Delaware.

The governor said Christine O’Donnell’s candidacy had cost the party a Senate seat: “I think Delaware was a missed opportunity to have a really good United States senator."

Christie recently ruled himself out as a contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, but left the door open for after 2013, when his term as governor expires.

“I’m going to need a job after 2013, whether it's being governor of New Jersey or something else; who knows.”

He still thinks Castle would have made a GOOD senator.

For which party?

I wish he was a bit more conservative on some issues because he would make a great POTUS. On the flip side - The GOP always has to be the responsible party while the Dems get a free pass on everything thanks to the TV news media. TV - ALL of IT - sucks. These people are evil.

Double standard on everything. Women Dem pols are waifs and angels who get softball questions. GOP women pols 9Bacjhmann, Sarah, O’Donnell, Angle, etc etc) are psycho bi*ches to the lib media. Fox is only marginally better.

Keep watching Tv folks and enjoy the serfdom.

Christie is just the type of Republican Karl Rove hates. Good thing he didnt run in November or Rove would have deep-6d him like O Donnell.

Exactly!

He's a great asset to the party however Marco Rubio needs to teach him a lesson on conservative values.

Huh? I think Rove probably loves Christie.

They both supported Castle.

Chris Christie is what you’d call a moderate Republican. The man I voted for in the primary, Steve Lonegan, is a conservative. Chris’s performance as New Jersey Governor is an object lesson in the merits of showing up and voting GOP in November, even if there is no conservative choice on the ballot.

Big words for somebody who is weak on the following foundational issues for conservatives:

1. 2nd Amendment
2. Cap-n-Trade
3. Socialized Healthcare

He first needs to firm up his positions on these issues before he becomes just adequate for consideration for a POTUS position.

I think Rush has picked *his* 2012 ticket.

He gave Sarah Palin and Chris Christie *8* ratings in the Newsweak interview.

Palin/Christie would likely be a landslide. Christie would have to abide by her strict pro-2nd Amendment, pro-life and anti-illegal alien, pro-AZ positions, and they already agree on small government, and breaking the public employee unions/pensions strangle holds.

Those who get the greatest negative scrutiny from the MSM will be the ones most likely to be the candidates.

So far Sarah Palin is far ahead of all others in negative liberal media reporting.

I hope she maintains her status for this would be an asset to her election possibilities IMO.

NJ is already in to cap and trade big time. 65 million in 2010 alone went from the energy companies to the state government.

You forgot Amnesty. Even so, it’s a blast to watch Christie taking on the Dems and especially the teachers. He’s perfect for NJ, but a bit too squishy for national office.

"Keep watching Tv folks and enjoy the serfdom"

I quit watching over 30 years ago; I don't even own a TV. I can't believe anyone on FreeRepublic even bothers to watch the MSM.

In addition to not watching TV I refuse to click on any link to the New York Times, the Washington Post, the LA Times or any other propaganda organ of the Stalinist Mass Murder Party of America, i.e., the Democrats. I refuse to increase their web traffic and marginally increase their ad revenue.

We have to do everything in our power to hasten the left-wing media's rendezvous with the ash heap of history.

I didn’t realize he supported Cap n Tax and Socialized medicine. That’s disappointing. How do you get smaller government without dodging those bullets?
