JAKARTA, Indonesia — President Obama, stepping into an Israeli-Palestinian dispute during a homecoming visit to the world’s largest Muslim majority nation, criticized Israel on Tuesday for its decision to advance the approval of some 1,000 new housing units in East Jerusalem during a sensitive time in the peace negotiations with the Palestinians.
“This kind of activity is never helpful when it comes to peace negotiations, and I’m concerned that we’re not seeing each side make the extra effort involved to get a breakthrough,” Mr. Obama said during a joint news conference with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here. He added, “Each of these incremental steps end up breaking trust.”

The Palestinians have thrown most of the monkey wrenches into the "peace process" which has always had the chances of a snowball on a hot griddle.
The Palestinians could have a state already if they wanted one because Israel has given concession after concession. They want the concession of Israel disbanding and going quietly somewhere else.
How long must we suffer this embarrassment in a suit with a white flag in his hand as he bows to every head of state in the world?

Building a new housing unit is so much worse than lobbing a rocket at a Jewish school.
Instead of promoting democracy, peace and stability, he is out there criticizing the only democracy in the mid east thereby promoting more anti Israel sentiment globally amongst his brethren.

You’re right. There has been a movement in the American Jewish community from reflexively voting for Socialists for the Destruction of Israel and America (they like the destruction of America part so much they are willing to accept the destruction of Israel as part of the package) to saner voting practices. But the movement is glacially slow.
Imam Omama is speaking to his co-religionists when he bashes Israel. His next act will be to sell rockets to Hezbollah (better ones than Iran currently supplies) as he is a traitor to US national interests in the Mid-East.
I understand the sentiment but remember how many Jews did nothing and were herded to the gas chambers. It seems they could always find a rational for the next big stick to be used on/against them. It completely mystifies me.

It’s amazing, and it’s terrifying and it’s frustrating.
Here is a subset of the American voter who is not only well educated but (you would think) conditioned by history to be street smart.
And yet up to now (and it does seem to be changing a bit), they are NOT street smart. Not even a little street smart.
They are willing to put the security of Israel into the hands of people like Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama.
That’s the opposite of street smart. The complete and total opposite.
