The Pentagon said Tuesday that a missile launch off the southern coast of California remained “unexplained” and that its mysterious origins meant that it was not possible to rule out any threat to the homeland, Fox News Channel reported.

Earlier Tuesday, NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) and NORTHCOM (United States Northern Command) officials told Fox there was no threat, but Pentagon Spokesman Col. Dave Lapan would not confirm that because the military does not know what the missile was or where it came from.

I’m sorry, but I have a real hard time believing that we don’t know anything about this launch.

Late payment notice on our national credit card bills? LOL

I refuse to believe that our military does not know what in the hell is going on.

>>can’t rule out a threat???<<

Well, if it wasn’t us, and it was not something coordinated with us, then that is a big DUH!

If that is true, it is, by definition, a threat. The only question now is what SPECIFIC threatening message we were supposed to get and why.

Well no one can tell me that the fact that it was launched just after Bush’s book came out is any conincidence! /sarc

If the Pentagon can't rule it out as a threat, it was a threat.

That's right, and this means we could be closer to the brink of war than the Cuban Missle Crisis.

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems to me like, as a threat, it was traveling in the WRONG DIRECTION. :O

Has Obama been asked about it?

Ah! Good. Someone there saw it come down no doubt and we will soon have confirmation.

Well, that's reassuring.

Yeah, shouldn’t Janet Napolitano be coming on to tell us everything worked the way it should?

I don’t know which is more unnerving.
That we don’t know what it is
or
The Pentagon doesn’t know what it is..........or whose it is.....or where it went..........

You and everyone else who saw it, and in particular those who took pictures of it on their cellphones or cameras, will be getting a visit very soon from the FBI. You will be told to keep your mouth shut or else! and your cameras cellphones, and other recording devices will be confiscated.

Just ask the more than 150 eyewitnesses who watched the rocket that brought down TWA 800 on a clear July evening in 1996.

Ah, we bombled their embassy accidentally-on purpose and it all worked out. Ofcourse that was over a decade ago, trillions of dollars ago and many technology exchanges ago. We had an asshat at the helm then too, come to think of it.

It has happened before. I remember a story a couple of years ago, or so, about an airline pilot in the same area who saw a missle launch and pass through the area of the sky he was flying. It even appeared on the live airline rader site. I want to say he was just leaving LAX headed west when the thing went by his aircraft.

China was pissed about our QE2 stunt, as was Russia. Perhaps firing a missile from a sub aimed away from our shores was a not-so-subtle attention getter.

Oh I think the Military has a good idea what happened, they are just either still pissing themselves or they are too scared to tell us.

However one unnamed senior defense official added: "There was no threat to the homeland."

Someone just launched a large missile 35 miles from our coast and we don't know anything about it but there's no threat to the homeland? What a joke.

Looked like it was headed to Hawaii. Anyone checked to see if it’s still there?
