There is more to this story, no doubt.

If that thing came from a sea based platform it was identified via satellite within minutes.

I tend to think it may have been an oops moment when some seaman on a boat leaned on a button during a launch exercise.

It could also turn out to be a shiny new satellite that does not exist, launched from a platform that likewise does not exist.

then why would you launch it within 40 miles of the coast?

To make a point.

Not a muffed attack. It was the Russians playing games at Obama’s expense.

They’re probably wetting themselves over how stupid Obama was for taking the entire Pacific Fleet with him to India/Indonesia and letting them get so close to the U.S. for the ICBM test.

Russia is taunting Obama and probably has some pity on our military for having such a stupid CIC.

I have an answer for you.
To ADMIT that a missile , fired by CIVILIANS( the enemy within our borders, known terrorists here, Muslims who have plainly said they are our enemies), would be to admit that something has to be done. This was boasting- visible proof of what is already here and will happen. Most likely a bunch of Muslims in a boat in the Pacific, testing things.
Even an amateur could trace the trajectory back to an origin point- NORAD can’t?
This- as with all Muslim/anti-American activity happening in this country- must be DENIED , because there is no political backbone to deal with it. So it can’t be a missile- despite the fact that seeing it says it is.
All threats are being negated this way- redefinition.

So now all missiles being fired anywhere, even in war, will be called ‘pretty sky sparkles’, and that will make them
harmless, pretty, GOOD things!
Until they strike your city- of course.

I lived in an apartment overlooking Point Fermin and Long Beach Harbor for several years. I’ve seen hundreds of these - that were planes. I never saw a missile launch from my apartment, so can’t comment on what that might look like.

All contrails over open water look like they emerge out of the water; lest we forgot the rock we are flying through space on is round.

The contrails arc because the plane is flying at a constant altitude over a round object and from your vantage point, you have an unobstructed view to the horizon. The contrail at the horizon looks bigger because it is - it is dissipating into the atmosphere. The contrail by the plane looks smaller because it is - hasn’t dissipated yet. It creates the illusion that it is flying away from you. It is not.

IMO, what you see in that video is a plane flying toward the camera (relatively speaking.)

With the entire U.S. Pacific Fleet.

He forgot the Reagan then. She's helping that cruise ship off of Mexico.

Nope. I was home that night after a hard day at the ‘Planet’.

A commercial airliner coming from Hawaii to Los Angeles would have a transponder and would be easily recognized by the FAA. The FAA says no plane was there. I see two options now:

1) Jetliners can enter our continental airspace, without the FAA's knowledge, and our government isn't treating this as an enormous weakness in our homeland defenses.
2) Foreign nations can launch ballistic missiles from 35 miles off our coast, and our government will lie about it to cover up this enormous weakness in our homeland defenses.

Bingo. Especially when the U.S. President takes the entire Pacific Fleet with him to India/Indonesia.

Uh, Jimbo, aren't you aware that OweBama is more important than the rest of us--COMBINED?

I don’t understand why he had to even take one single Navy rowboat with him, much less than the entire freaking fleet.

What?

We don’t have *any* -other- naval presence *already* over that way that could’ve detoured for a week or so?

God, the level of his stupidity and sense of self-importance is simply staggering.

Agreed, and where did the “lone jet” go? Where are the other contrails that would have been created through the same stratum?

Ok, that makes since...thanks for that clarification jimbo...I thought it was so weird for the reporter to write that, like it was a inside joke for them, and not the reader.

My vote is for it being a solid fuel rocket.

Contrails, the word is made up of two other words. Condensation and Trail. A contrail is made when an aircraft flies through weather conditions that allow for water vapor to condense in the aircraft's trail.

Even heavy contrails have a wispy almost see through quality to them and they tend to move and dissipate in a fairly homogeneous manner.

The plume from a solid fuel rocket is much thicker and almost impossible to see through until sufficient time has passed for the plume to be dissipated by the weather.

As the plume dissipates you will notice that some of the plume will move to the right and some to left. Also rocket plumes tend to refract light so that under the right conditions you get a “rainbow” like quality to the dispersing plume. Contrails do no do this.

Am I positive...no...but from personal experience, I'm more inclined to believe the rocket theory rather than the aircraft theory.
