Sources: Pentagon group finds there is minimal risk to lifting gay ban during war

A Pentagon study group has concluded that the military can lift the ban on gays serving openly in uniform with only minimal and isolated incidents of risk to the current war efforts, according to two people familiar with a draft of the report, which is due to President Obama on Dec. 1.

More than 70 percent of respondents to a survey sent to active-duty and reserve troops over the summer said the effect of repealing the "don't ask, don't tell" policy would be positive, mixed or nonexistent, said two sources familiar with the document. The survey results led the report's authors to conclude that objections to openly gay colleagues would drop once troops were able to live and serve alongside them.

One source, who has read the report in full, summarized its findings in a series of conversations this week. The source declined to state his position on whether or not to lift the ban, insisting it did not matter. He said he felt compelled to share the information out of concern that groups opposed to ending the ban would mischaracterize the findings. The long, detailed and nuanced report will almost certainly be used by opponents and supporters of repeal legislation to bolster their positions in what is likely to be a heated and partisan congressional debate.

In support troops, sure—not in front-line units. And just out of curiosity, how many members of the “study group” have actually served in combat units?

You mean because there is a distinct correlation between the number that join during a war and a war

The fact that the pro-homosexual forces are selectively leaking this stuff tells me there is plenty in the report that doesn’t support the repeal of DADT. They want to get out on front of the release, condition the public, and prime the political process so they can twist the results to their advantage.

I am sure they did....I am absolutely confident the are disregarding my inputs. the paper I wrote for them, the books on the issue, the former Chiefs of Staff and Chairmen of the joint Chiefs and all the men and women who have been relentlessly talking to them about it. Why? Becuase its political.

Gays are succesfully working to get Government commanded legitimacy. they can not get it at the ballot box or in the public square...so they will carve it out of our nation this way.

Why would any sane person join the US Military while this guy is in charge? Believe me, it was bad enough under President Carter, but we weren’t at war so the funding problems were more of a nuisance. Once President Reagan got going it was like night and day!!

Was the poll a securely confidential one?

If not, it is statistical trash.

The serving of country and patriotism is greater than Obama and he will not be in forever, hopefully the latest he is on office is Jan 21 2013 at 11:59 a.m.

A good idea when we start looking at defence cuts is to start with these two commie bastards and the rest of them in the puzzle palace.Great place to start.

Is recruitment that bad that we have to hire sexual deviants to do our fighting for us? If so, this country is in big trouble.
