WASHINGTON Sen. Jim DeMint is about to have a whole lot of people praying for him.
The Family Research Council, an influential group with large followings among conservatives and evangelical Christians, announced a nationwide initiative Wednesday to persuade 1 million people to pray for the South Carolina Republican.
Tony Perkins, head of the Washington-based organization, said DeMint has been unfairly blamed for having cost Republicans control of the Senate by backing ultraconservative candidates who lost several key general election races last week.
To those of us who know and admire Senator Jim DeMint, these recent attacks on his character have been difficult to stomach, Perkins said in his daily email newsletter to supporters.
Perkins said DeMint, who sailed to re-election last week over Democrat Alvin Greene, had inspired countless conservative voters who might otherwise not have cast ballots.
When the establishment failed to energize the base with its moderate platform, Senator DeMint became a crusader for principled conservatism that reached beyond the GOP, Perkins said.

Well duh, it is a biblical platitude that one ought to pray for “kings, and all that are in authority.” The media is so illiterate in things Christendom that it is shocked to see this actually happen.
Just for the fun of it.
“criticize” should read “demonize”
I could only wish the media would spend even a tenth of the time doing this to Islam as it does doing it to Christianity. We have the royally rich irony that public critics of Christianity feel free to liken it to Islamic jihad, yet they will not directly speak ill of Islamic jihad itself!
Prayers on the way.
I will ask Franklin Graham where he and we stand. God Bless.
The MSM narrative in all its BS glory.
For communists, 1% is a stunning victory in the face of overwhelming odds. For Constitutionalists, 99% is a crushing defeat and rejection of "extremism".
Eff these clowns and their faery stories that run counter to reality.
And God Bless the Tea Party candidates!
Faith is faith, and all deserves respect. Homicidal faith inspired action is not faith... It is homicide.
Deference through fear of retribution only encourages such behavior.
This has been going on for a long time.
I thought it was O’Donnell that cost the Republicans the Senate majority. No wait, it was Palin. No, wasn’t Bachman involved? Oh no, that’s right it was DeMint. Oh man, wasn’t it actually the Freepers? Ooops, forgive me, I know, it was the Tea Party.
Wow, I’ve seldom seen so many Leftists masturbating in public.
All the above entities were responsible for the good guys taking control of the U. S. House of Representatives, including the folks playing with themselves in public.
A whole lot of people are disgusted with that type of behavior, and have put the adults back in charge.
Misrepresent that at your own risk Lefties.
Republicans, we know who the solid ones are. We support them. RNC and Republican leadership everywhere, don’t try to make hay off negativity. You’re on a very short leash these days, whether you know it or not.
Your days of screwing us with impunity have come to an end.
Both parties need to be thinking about how they can pass legislation good for our nation, not trying to screw with people who aren’t going to sit around and take their insults any longer.
Faith is believing to the point of being moved to act on the belief. Nothing in the definition makes any moral distinction about what the object of the faith happens to be, whether it’s God or the devil.
I don’t think any Rat remembers what good governance is, since it has been so long since they have participated in any semblance of it.
I agree. On top of that, I’ll have to tell you I can’t understand how any decent U. S. Citizen could remain a member of the Democrat party. And the truth is, there probably aren’t any.
Each journalist has their opinion as to who lost the election for the Republicans (as far as the Senate). That is why there are varied examples. I am sure that if we were going to write articles on why the Democrats lost the House, there would be a number of different reasons. Did you not understand that different people have different opinions.
DeMint-Rubio 2012!
“We have the royally rich irony that public critics of Christianity feel free to liken it to Islamic jihad, yet they will not directly speak ill of Islamic jihad itself!”
That’s an awesome meme.
...”Prayers on the way”...
When Christian nations pray earnestly and with conviction, miracles happen..I wouldn’t be surprised to see Christianity’s most vicious critics come to know who our God is before this is over.
For the next two years, we should have an organized pray-around-the-clock effort. Have a few hundred people in every five-minute, or even a half-hour, slot each day. Multiply those hundreds of people in each slot by the number of slots, and the country and 2012 election would be covered in prayer 24/7.
In an age when Democrats and their operatives use the same very obscure catch phrases on the same day when talking about issues, I think it’s rather charming for you to come to their defense as they trash ever single leading Conservative they can think of.
Yeah, sure, it’s just coincidental that they are all talking about who lost it for the Republicans, and they just happen to cover all the bases perfectly.
If we’re talking about people on the right, then dumb luck would play in. If we’re talking about MSM ‘journalists’, color me skeptical.
Your take was something I didn’t expect. I do think it was outside the box, so don’t take my comments to be totally negative. I just think you’re granting too much leeway to the Democrats here.
Take care.
