Why are we paying for NPR?

The recent firing of longtime news analyst Juan Williams of National Public Radio was a wake-up call for many Americans to the political correctness and liberal bias at the station.

However, it's not so much the bias that offends me, but the fact that my tax dollars are funding it.

On its website, National Public Radio describes itself as "an independent, self-supporting media organization ... that receive(s) no direct federal funding for operations." That carefully worded statement is disingenuous and hides the truth about the extent to which taxpayers are supporting the station and its liberal agenda.

NPR is a two-tiered operation, consisting of the operational headquarters in Washington, D.C., that produces programs and the more than 700 NPR affiliate stations broadcasting those programs...

For now, to our best knowledge, Corporation for Public Broadcasting has funneled more than $4 billion in taxpayer money to National Public Radio and PBS since 2001.

Furthermore, National Public Radio has a massive private endowment of more than $225 million. You may recall that in 2003, the widow of Ray Kroc, founder of McDonald's Corporation, donated more than $200 million to the National Public Radio endowment. Then, it was the single largest monetary gift ever given to a cultural institution.

George Soros recently added another $1.8 million to that fund. Every year, private businesses and individual contributors pledge millions to NPR affiliate stations.

The government has no business being a broadcaster, especially when there is a thriving private market.

... Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which has received more than $450 million in 2010 alone. It has already requested another $604 million for 2013.

For years, Congress has appropriated funding well beyond the rate of inflation. During the last decade, financing for public broadcasting has risen more than 26 percent.

Because all of the rest of the media is so far to the right that it is the only way that both sides can be presented, fairness can ensue, and everyone can live happily ever after. </sarc>

George Soros is paying a pittance for total control of the personnel and propaganda.

We are paying $millions in taxes for the facilities and overhead.

It’s called re-distribution in Orwellian speak.

The same question should be asked about the Voice of America.

Same reason we fund SEICUS (sex positive proponents), Planned Parenthood, global warming scientists, and other liberal frauds. There exists a shadow government that uses the public taxpayer to fund the political left.
