Recommended Reading: VS Naipaul on Muslim Takeovers of Countries.

Two have to read books about the Muslim takeover of Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan and Malaysia.

The first book "Among the Believers" is about the takeover in the seventies.

The second book "Beyond Belief" looks at the takeover 20 years later when he returns to the countries and continues his interviews.

If heed is not taken, it will be the story of the future of the west as Muslims use the same tactics today in Euroope and the United States.

Worth the read.

I highly recommend both of these books. Naipaul is one of my favorite authors. The one thing he is not is politically-correct.

But he and Paul Theroux got in a pissing contest (Theroux actually wrote a book about it), and since Theroux is on my short list of favorite authors, Naipaul is on my do not touch with, along with movies with Woodie Allen.

It has long been my view that many literary talents are not people we would want to have as friends, and - in any event - are too flaky to be people we can rely on in times of need. Naipaul strikes me as someone who writes as a non-Westerner would (in terms of being politically incorrect), but from a Western point of view.

Woody Allen I understand. Theroux is a favorite of mine but I must say, these are not to be missed books, dont carry someone’s grudge, instead take the good parts and leave the rest.

I must say that after reading these books one has a very different perspective on the Muslim and leftist news.

I also despise Theroux for suggesting that the outing of Communists in government during the McCarthy era was the equivalent of Stalin’s mass murders. I don’t know if I’d have this jerk as a friend, but he was definitely a fellow traveler.

“Among the Believers” is the first book that I am aware of that actually takes note of political Islam as a global force. It's a remarkably prescient book. Naipaul ascribes the rise of political Islam as a response to failed societies, but he drives home again and again how worthless political Islam is as a creed to better peoples lives.

I haven't read the second, “Beyond Belief,” but if it's by Naipaul, I'm sure it's full of brilliant insights.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I recommend the second one. It is a look at the positive an negatives in a Muslim Culture overlay that proudly provides feudalism, patriarchy and nepotism as better options than freedom.

We are in the beginning stages of the first book. The second book provides a look at our children’s future.

Muslims haven’t “taken over” Indonesia, where did you hear that nonsense?

The last time I checked Indonesia had just overwhelmingly re-elected their pro-western president Susilo Bambang Yudyono to a second term in one of the world’s biggest ever democratic elections, just for the record the “islamist” parties (and they’re a rather wishy washy form of islamism) scored a rather measly 5% in the election.

Muslims are 88% of the Indonesian population. And the Indonesions were not originally Muslim.

I’m not sure I see your point, the article implies that Islamic fundamentalists have “taken over” Indonesia, this is balderdash. Yes Islam (a rather milk and water version of Islam compared to their brethren in the Arabian peninsula) became the majority religion of the population of the Malay archipelago seven or eight hundred years ago but this isn’t remotely the same thing as saying that the modern day state of the Republic of Indonesia is in some way an Islamic state, it isn’t, not remotely.

As for your assertion that Indonesians were not originally Muslim, well since the state of Indonesia was founded in 1945 a majority of its citizens have been Muslim. If you mean the peoples of Java, Sumatera, and Borneo weren’t originally Muslim you are correct but then I’ve got news for you the peoples of any country weren’t originally any religion, the Poles weren’t “originally” Catholic, the Chinese weren’t “originally” Buddhist and the Swedes weren’t “originally” Lutheran so I don’t see what relevance this is to the article.

It is a real watered down Islam in Indonesia that has one of their top men telling the Muslim world that he was “forced” to shake Hussain’s wife’s hand.

The idiot minor government minister is considered a laughing stock throughout the country for his schoolboy eagerness to shake Michelle Obama’s hand and then pretending it was an accident. The video of the incident is playing constantly on TV to hoots of derision and the man is widely regarded as a nincompoop and is lampooned in the media and internet.

So this is your evidence that Indonesia has been taken over by Islamic fundamentalists?

Try harder.
