40,000 Expected at George W. Bush Rally in Florida Today

Former President George W. Bush is expected to draw around 40,000 people to a rally in Florida this morning at the Republican stronghold retirement community, The Villages, according to local news reports.

Bush is promoting his new book, Decision Points. After the rally, he will greet several hundred people who obtained wristbands earlier in the week from a bookstore in The Villages. There are conflicting reports about whether pre-signed books will given to those meeting Bush or if he will sign books in person.

The rally is set for 10 a.m. at Lake Sumter Landing.

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin drew a crowd estimated between 60,000 and 70,000 in September 2008 during a campaign stop when she was running for vice president on the Republican presidential ticket.

There is no word about whether Jeb Bush, the popular former two-term governor of Florida, will join his brother at the rally this morning.

Bush will be making another appearance in Florida tomorrow at the Miami Book Fair. Demand for tickets to that event was so heavy the ticket computer system crashed, according to the Miami Herald.

I bought my copy on Thursday at Costco. Even the receipt checker at the door commented how GREAT it was selling that day and that it was a great book and how well he was coming across in all his interviews this week. I’ve watched the Hannity, O’Reilley, DVR’d the Greta one and even watched the Oprah one but will not watch the Matt the Jerk Lauer one.

Ha ha ha!

Palin draws over 50,000; 40,000 estimated to see W, but Zero can't fill a 14,000 seat arena in Cleveland! LOL!

Authors like Clinton will waive speaking and appearance fees in exchange for event organizers buying books by the truckload. That’s how a clown like Romney can claim tens of thousands of first week sales for his drivel.

It’s common practice - a promotional/accounting trick.

I admire President Bush highly. I just flat out miss him, despite some Constitutional disappointments as a result of his actions.

That said, I picked up his book and checked the index for any mention of his signing the McCain-Feingold bill.

There was no reference to it in the index.
I was hoping he would address his reason for signing it.

If you’ve read his book, does he talk about McCain-Feingold?

thanks for posting this, kristinn. Wish I knew about this earlier, I surely would have attended. I’m about 2 hrs away from the Villages.

So glad President Bush is receiving warm, enthusiastic welcomes wherever he goes. He is a patriot.

I got it on my Kindle on Tuesday, and just finished it last night. Couldn’t put it down.

Really enjoyed it. It’s a different format than I’ve seen before. Rather than running chronologically, each chapter is about some major decision, and it bounces around in time showing different elements that led to whatever choice he made. It’s interesting.

His detractors will be disappointed, but even they will have to admit that while you can disagree with decisions he made, you can’t say that he wasn’t thoughtful, fully engaged and thoroughly informed before he made decisions.

Nearr the appearance, you have to have the right colored wristband by buying a book from Barnes and Noble.
