Northrop Grumman is highlighting its deep experience on early intercept of ballistic missile threats to compete for the U.S. Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) next-generation ballistic missile interceptor currently planned for fielding in 2020. The company announced that it has submitted a proposal for the Next Generation Aegis Missile's (NGAM) concept definition and program planning phase set to get underway in 2011.

I don’t know how much cred to give a story that talks about an Aegis missile. Aegis is a radar and targeting system not a missile system.
They are referring to NGAM(Next Generation Aegis Missile). The new interceptor will be designed to provide early intercept capability against some short range ballistic missiles, all medium range ballistic missiles, all intermediate range ballistic missiles and non-advanced intercontinental ballistic missiles.
The Standard IV already does much of that.
But the U.S navy wants a new system.
Maybe it’s needed, but as Admiral of the Soviet Fleet Gorschkov so famously said,”Better is the enemy of good enough.”
Good Point
Have a good night.
I hope they can make weaponry better than they can do facilities management, and I hope the asshats they employ in their management don’t get close to that same hardware.
Gorshkov is reputed to have hung on the wall of his office as a motto.
