Rangel Is Found to Have Violated House Ethics Rules [update: guilty of all but one charge]
New York Times ^ | 16 November 2010 | David Kocieniewski

Posted on 11/16/2010 11:56:30 AM PST by Racehorse

A House panel on Tuesday found Representative Charles B. Rangel guilty of 11 counts of ethical violations, ruling that his failure to pay taxes, improper solicitation of fund-raising donations and failure to accurately report his personal income had brought dishonor on the House.

After a public hearing Monday that was truncated by Mr. Rangel walking out in protest, an adjudicatory subcommittee of the House ethics committee deliberated for four hours before finding him guilty of all but one of the 13 counts against him.

(Two other counts, involving Mr. Rangel’s misuse of House franking privileges, were merged into one.)

It has to do with the important question as to WHY some members of Congress are not held accountable to the LAW!

If he broke the law, he should be held accountable. Any of the rest of us would be held accountable....

I just do not understand that our laws for criminals somehow do not apply to those in politics? Why?

Further his resignation is not a just punishment for his robberies and tax evasion...it appears he won’t resign so can they make him resign completely from washington?

This just astounds me just as with Geitner....these employees of the people doge paying their taxes and raise everyone elses.....dirt dogs and thieves the lot of them!

Unfortunately, we, the voters, have allowed them to get away with murder. Literally.

However, I see your point. Public rejection and ridicule is one thing, prison and fines are another.

They’re worse than their fraudulent voters.

Failure to pay taxes is a Federal Offense...

It's worse than that. He fraudulently under-reported his income in an attempt to evade taxes he owed. That's not the same as simply failing to pay taxes owed.

Let's say he correctly did his tax returns, and then neglected to send in a check. In that case, he failed to pay his taxes. But he falsely filled out his tax forms in order to evade paying taxes on income that was generated. And the IRS does not take kindly to that.

I would be interested to hear what Wesley Snipes has to say about this.

Rangel is correct......they are all criminals.

Which means criminals tried a criminal and the criminals will soon be sentencing a criminal.

That's justice they can believe in. The rest of us are hosed.

They must have decided there would be too much trouble if they let him off and he was easily sacrificial, and certainly paid off.

Posted on it a half dozen times, I will never be able to thank everyone on the prayer thread. Haven’t been able to answer much but I hope to pick up speed. Just posted an update awhile ago. Much better, still facing more surgery.

I read where you still had more surgery and pray it finally resolves things for you. No way can you post to all and no one expects it.

I appreciate hearing from you and will continue those prayers.

Rangel, yep, the tide has turned I think. Hope it continues.

No reply needed, take care of yourself LJ!
