PROVO – Did unreported factors contribute to the demise of Mitt Romney's 2008 presidential campaign?

How did the news media cover the 1967-68 presidential campaign of his father, George Romney?

Two research projects presented to an audience of more than 100 people at BYU's Mormon Media Studies Symposium recently compared the two Romneys' campaigns.

BYU professors John Gee and Louis C. Midgley titled their paper, "Under the Media's Nose: Overlooked Factors Undermining the Presidential Campaign of Mitt Romney.

I’m not supporting Romney. I simply would have preferred him over McCain. And he could make a good Commerce Secretary.

“...one thing to me that gives him an advantage over McCain is his business-saving experience at Bain and his resurrection of the Salt Lake City Olympics. “

Bain - buying companies, laying people off
SLC Olympics - got huge amount of $ from the Government to rescue it

And yes, I have been and am a proud Freeper who will remain a RomneyBOTT but will do so quietly.

Good idea.

However; if you can find some good Conservative things that MITT has accomplished, post away.

You're wrong.

Bain - Saving companies so that everyone doesn't end up getting laid off
Atlanta Olympics - got huge amount of $ from the Government to rescue it

I suppose that last one was Romney's fault as well. The bottom line is that Romney pulled off a miracle with the SLC games. They were mired in corruption with no hope at all of getting any sponsors to sign on. Romney came in and made it a success. I can appreciate your dislike for Mitt Romney, but it doesn't help your cause to lie about him.

He stayed on message? What message was that?
__________________________________________________

Yes dear he did...

For 40 years steady RINO Romney stayed on his same message of abortion...

The first time I ever heard him speak of abortion was the 1st or 2nd debate...

He said then he had been a constant abortion pusher since 1970..

and that he was proud that his own Mommy, Lenore Romney had been an abortion pusher too...

Yeppers, Williard Mitt Romney has stayed on message...

Ya cant take that away from him...

Kid Atlanta was the Summer Olympics, 1996

Romney interferred with the Winter Olympics, 1992 and caused the cost to be 1/2 again what it should have been...

Plus he banned the boyscouts from helping...

Plus he never “saved” the Olympics...

Until Romney interferred the Olympics were skating along swimmingly..

Regardless of past actions, Romney campaigned in 2008 just as pro-life as John McCain. To suggest that he was running as a pro-choice candidate is disingenuous. As for your post 111, it makes no sense. Care to clarify? btw, the 1992 Winter Games were held in France. In that year, Mitt Romney was successfully bringing Bain Co. back to profitability without laying off anyone while earning an annual salary of $1.

Your hatred has blinded you.

Letter from Sen. John McCain (R-Az.) to Roman Catholic Bishops and Letter of Response from National Right to Life Committee

. . . However, since much of Senator McCain's letter consists of statements regarding his pro-life record, we must briefly address that matter. Senator McCain does not have, as he asserted on the Senate floor on February 25, a "hundred percent pro-life voting record." He has consistently voted for federal funding of research involving transplantation of tissues or organs "harvested" from aborted babies, a policy opposed by NRLC and the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, among others. In addition, in 1995, despite opposition by NRLC and the NCCB, Senator McCain voted for an unsuccessful proposal (referred to by NRLC and other opponents as the "teen mother's child exclusion") intended to discourage any state from using federal welfare funds to provide cash assistance for the care of babies born to unwed teen mothers. (1995 Senate roll call no. 419) John McCain has been a member of Congress since 1983. We have found no record, during this 15-year period, of any pro-life McCain amendment to any bill, nor of Mr. McCain stepping forward as an initiator or leader on any pro-life issue. We mention this only because various passages of Senator McCain's letter -- "I . . . yield to no member of Congress . . . in my support of legislation to protect the rights of the unborn," "our greatest concern [should be] the sanctity of human life," "ardent supporter of unborn children's right to life," etc., might have led you to believe otherwise. Having noted these necessary qualifications, Senator McCain's overall congressional voting record is that of an opponent to abortion, and we have never implied otherwise.

Romney campaigned in 2008 just as pro-life as John McCain
_________________________________________

Kid check out my #107

I dont think I’d ever seen the guy before the debate

When Romney was asked about abortion he told his yarn about his aunt dying from an illegal abortion in 1970...

My heart went out to the guy right then...

and I was expecting his next words to be a campaign AGAINST abotion...

But NO...
Romney proudly boasted he had fought FOR abortion ever since..
\
Just make it legal...

Then he boasted that hje was proud of his Mommy Lenore Romney running on a platform for abortion for US Senator from MI in 1970

Both Romneys pushing abortion BEFORE it was legal...

Roe V Wade was not until 3 years later...

Any pro-lifers will understand how betrayed and sick I felt listening to that evil twisted pig...

BTW when he ran for MASS Gov in 2002 he claimed he would “sustain” the current abortion laws...

What a hypocrite...

Well in 2002 he claimed he was “pro-choice”

In 2008 he just deropped the pretence at sitting on the fence and admitted he was pro-abortion...

pro-choice after all is pro-abortion...

BTW Romney has never marched against abortion...

but he has given money to Planned Parenthood...

Spin till Romneys white KKK sheets iz real dry Honey...

You’re going back to 1970? Wow, you really are desperate. btw, I am not disputing that Romney was pro-abortion in the past. I am only saying that it is disingenuous to refer to McCain as the polar opposite of Romney on the issue in 2008. If you want to say that Romney was not to be believed for his pro-life stance in the 2008, then by all means do so. But don’t push McCain as being the second coming of Norma Leah McCorvey. None have been consistently pro-life. Not one.

Romney interferred in 1999 with the 2002 Winter Olympics held in SLC

In 1992 he was claiming in the US Senate debates in MASS to be more pro-abortion than Teddy Kennedy
