Abandoning the war on drugs would condemn the weak to a hell on earth.
Instead, what about the Singapore solution: madatory execution for traffickers?
From a blog where the author was recalling filling out some paperwork while in Singapore:
“When I was filling out my customs form for Singapore, I was chilled to see the all-capital letters, “DEATH FOR DRUGS IN SINGAPORE.”
I have a family member in the grips of this. You’ve heard all the stories. As far as I’m concerned, they’re all true.
You must not live in a state where Sudafed is already something that requires you to register with the pharmacist every time you make a purchase. This is already in place throughout the midwest, including Texas, save for a few states.
Sudafed is still the most effective sinus/allergy medicine out there and it feels like you are being singled out for harassment when you have to go to a pharmacy counter and sign forms in order to buy it.
We do still have meth labs around here too, although I can’t tell you if it is higher or lower (the ADDICTS aren’t the ones registering at the pharmacy counters so there’s no apparent tracking).
So, in order to stop people who can’t use a drug responsibly, we punish the people who only want to take a pill so they can stop sneezing and choking on their own snot. How compassionate!
And how idiotic. More government unintended consequences. The meth heads probably already have figured out a work-around while we allergy sufferers are treated to more Big Brother.
They don’t have to cook it up here anymore...the Mexicans are making it in factories on the other side of the border and shipping it in.
It became known as Biker Meth because the Hells Angels used the method.
I don't think drug laws work but this stuff is so dangerous that I'm glad it is illegal and thus harder to obtain. I just wish there was a way to help the addicted.
Iowa passed a law that required stores to put sudafed behind the counter. I believe it also required you to sign for it. All reports claim this greatly curtailed the home grown meth labs. Now if we could just slow down the stuff coming over our southern border.
Meth is easy to smuggle in from Mexico.
Libertarians want to legalize it, including the manufacture of it, and the advertising of it.
I heard a fellow opining it is precisely this law that has caused the recent surge in violence along the Mexican border.
Evidently, the production has merely moved to the Mexicans, and this boost in profits and cash on hand has caused them to both fight more over the traffic, and embolden them to taking a more active role in leadership of the region, so to speak.
This sounds credible to me, and in any case, meth use hasn’t gone down, and normal americans have their rights restricted.
It is ridiculous if you ask me.
It is straight up nanny state BULLSHIT. Requiring a prescription for harmless cold medecine because it can be used as an ingredient for something illegal? Might as well require a doctor’s permission to buy beef - only if you passa heart test. Makes as much sense to require a state license for guns because they COULD be used in crime.
Every young person should be aware of, and visit http://www.facesofmeth.us/main.htm
Just as well for them. They should be out stealing instead of ripping off other drug addicts.
Heck-of-job Robbie. I guess your information about the success of the ban comes from a prosecutors office. Oh that's you. Where is the proof? Arrests are down? Quit even trying to chase these people and declare total victory. Just scrape them up when they kill themselves. Did assisted suicide pass? Oh you need a Doctor and ...wait for it.. a PRESCIPTION.
Nice valentine you wrote in the paper to the author of the bill. Oh, that's you too.
Oregon is ass deep in crank, heroin and illegal use of prescription drugs.
They have triumphed over illegal reefer. It's now defacto legal. They just said "let's dummy up a medical marijuana scam, set up growers and pretend we have not just joined the illegal drug business.
Arrests gotta be zero.
This prosecutor is likely running for some legislative office. Bet he is a repugnican.
Ah, 25 years in the trenches of the public “mental health” trade has me longing for the days of relatively harmless heroin addicts. They were simply addicts.
Meth users, OTOH - at least those who do pull out of the nose dive before total destruction - are all too often left with permanent damage to key neural circuits regulating mood and reality testing and cognitive functions. I often feel lucky to get some of them back even half way, and if they do make it back it isn’t usually to their former life of employment and family. Tragic, and both a cause and a symptom of the devastation liberal influences have brought upon our society.
The Sudafed laws seem to have made no impact. Meth floods north en mass these days, a product of the utmost graciousness and generosity of our virtuous neighbors to the south.
Of course, a civilized society such as ours will never take the steps needed to stop this. A bit of guts and gumption are all it would take, but they are in short supply and out of vogue.
In Cave Junction, Oregon, late one night, one cashier closed her till, went to the pharmacy, and came back with an armload of psuedoephedrine (Sudafed). Her friendly co-worker took her money, and checked her out.
Now what was that about keeping Sudafed out of the hands of Meth Producers?
This is not a time to require a prescription for medications containing pseudo ephedrine. (No time is) How many people are out of work with no insurance? They do not have the money for a doctor's visit. Claritin-D i not cheap and the generic is not effective for me.
I hate the ‘punish the class’ mindset.
