"I wonder what the untended consequences of this will be?"

The tree huggers will come out enmasse and declare that we are destroying the Rain forest, just like they did in the 70's which brought about the plastic grocery bags in the 1st place.......

Are these the same idiots who insisted that we replace paper bags with plastic bags, to save the trees?

What are people going to pick up their dogs crap with?

Not just for dogs. They are wonderful for little baby bombs, as well. We also use them for garbage bags in the little bathroom trash cans. The ones the guests don't see, anyway.

I know some people who work at WalMart, and they say reusable bags are a nightmare, especially when customers bring ‘em in infested with cockroaches.

Paper bags are the same. Roaches lay their eggs in the bottom folds and customers take them home where the eggs hatch.

just remember that it was the consrvation LEFT that wanted to end PAPAER bags and all the trees they used. Now Calif. will be clear cutting forests again to solve this problem. Thos cloth bags have more germs and disease problems than anyone figured...that is why cloth went away in place of paper and then palstic to SAVE TEH TREES. HAH they forget why the do things like MTBE and Plastic bags.

Considerably more energy is required to make a paper bag than a plastic one.
Considerably more energy is required to recycle a paper bag than a plastic one.
Considerably more landfill space is required to dispose of paper bags than is needed for plastic.
And once in that landfill, the carbon in the plastic will stay locked up for a thousand years while the carbon in paper will make it's way back into the atmosphere as greenhouse gas methane.

This illustrates once again how stupid and counterproductive you end up being when you allow emotion to drive your decision-making processes instead of logic and rational thought.

I have a soccer ball bag from Sports Authority that works great as a grocery bag (or laundry bag). Its a large bag made from net material, can be washed, and holds as much as you can carry.

yeah, that's going to work real well with bags of chips and eggs mixed with meats, milk and bread. Then throw in some veggies and jars of condiments. Grocery shopping for 8 people is going to be just peachy. But it's California and really I could give a sh#t what they do there. I haven't been back in over 17 years except for a layover. I'm looking forward to the rest of the country being asked to bail out California.

Works for me since I live alone. But I wouldn’t live in CA
either due to gun laws, taxes, and my inability to understand why people vote for failure.

I know what would piss them all off, while shopping buy a some Heftys kitchen trash bags and demand that your groceries be packed in them, when you get home you can re-use those bags as trash bags.
That would drive the libs standing in line INSANE!

Now there's a thinking girl! Good idea.
