LOS ANGELES (Nov. 16) -- Betty Sugiyama was rushing to catch a train for a shopping trip when authorities say the unthinkable happened: A homeless woman leapt from a bench and shoved her onto the tracks.

Witnesses said the woman then calmly returned to her seat as Sugiyama writhed in pain on the tracks with a cracked skull. The 84-year-old Little Tokyo resident died soon after, and the suspect was arrested on murder charges.

A sister of Sugiyama who witnessed the attack remained stunned Tuesday that anyone would want to kill her friendly younger sibling, a Japanese-American who had grown up in the shadow of World War II and was sent to an internment camp as a child.

>>Well of course. They aren’t people. Like yourself.

“Are there no poorhouses? Are there no workshops?”<<

Where does self reliance fit into your lifestyle? Are you on four different social programs or do you take care of your problems yourself?

Illegal aliens disgust me because they are parasites. Nothing more.

A couple of times in my life when business slowed down I was laid off and applied for unemployment insurance but I’ve never collected it because I hustled my butt and got another job within a few days.

Then when I became self employed I understood that taking care of the customer was of the utmost importance because s/he decided if I was going to have a reason to get out of bed in the morning.

I am not somebody who has ever relied on the government to take care of my needs and I get sick at the thought of able people who refuse to work.

Then there’s the drug and alcohol addicts whom I have no use for whatsoever.

Funny you ask that.

I have a disability. I’ve collected neither welfare, nor disability, nor unemployment insurance, despite the fact that I’ve paid into and qualify for all.

“Illegal aliens disgust me because they are parasites.”

They have broken the law by coming into the US without proper papers. I agree with you that they should return where they came. But they are still persons, not parasites.

“Then there’s the drug and alcohol addicts whom I have no use for whatsoever.”

Life has a funny way of making us reconsider ourselves. Look, I agree that people should be able to take care of themselves, but as you so duly noted, your employment depended on how you provided a service to the community. No community, no business.

We are all in a sense dependent on one another, and through charity are called to assist each other in this strange journey called life.

Remember that other line? “Life was our business!”

Actually, not quite right.

“Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!”

“Do you remember who is largely responsible for overturning the laws to commit truly insane people? “ I don’t know the answer and the suspense is killing me. Please tell. thx!

In traveling throughout the world where there is no poorhouses or work shops or social programs I’ve seen people with all sorts of disabilities performing tasks that I never would have assumed was possible for such a person to do. Here in America we are taught that if someone has a broken finger they should not have to show up for work but should receive full pay and of course not be penalized in any manner for their absence.

I use a wheel chair to get around if I have any distance to traverse. I don’t ask people to open doors or assist me in getting into my truck perhaps because I want to show them that disabled persons such as myself can do a lot of things without assistance. I want them to push and prod relatives that are also disabled to do more for themselves instead of calling on a convenient social program to provide for them.

The people who work at the social programs encourage disabled people to use their services because that provides them with employment. Politicians encourage people to use them because that results in larger budgets for them to squander. It pisses me off when I see the waste in my city budget that politicians consider absolutely necessary. Supporting parasites is not an absolutely necessity.

I admire guys like Sheriff Joe Arapio who work on a threadbare budget because it is taxpayers money. He know criminals can live in tents because our servicemen have been doing it for years. The local, state and federal politicians would prefer to build humongous air conditioned prisons with earmark money because it provides jobs.

We are in serious trouble as a nation.

Earning a living is what I expect from people who want to live. Performing necessary tasks is what I want to see them doing, not coddling their local parasites. Self reliance is a MUST in our character if we expect this nation to continue to grow.

Agree wholeheartedly. I am deaf, but I teach. I was shocked to find out that the average person with my hearing reads at a 3rd grade level.

The whole ‘system’ has failed. To top it off, when I went to university, I dealt with their ‘disability resource center’. Want to guess what the number one disability they dealt with?

The same one that permitted extra time in exams. ADHD. 80 percent of their caseload. How many of these students would be ashamed that people with actual disabilities perform at a higher level with no accommodation?

It’s all a scam while the people who really do need help are ignored.

I have noticed the flavor of your post has changed tremendously. No more grousing about how the unfortunate deserve our care.

>>Agree wholeheartedly. I am deaf, but I teach. I was shocked to find out that the average person with my hearing reads at a 3rd grade level.<<

If they have community leaders who will pay their bills, feed them, clean their homes and wipe their butts where is the need to read above a 3rd grade level? This is considered providing jobs to the community to most politicians.

ADHD is a chosen disability. Chosen by liberals because it is a great one that cannot be medicated without disabling the patient. It’s like smoking weed. Take a little bit too much and the medications slow you down to where you almost cannot function on your own.

That is wonderful because now the community is responsible for your welfare. This requires a team of educated people who are not inexpensive.....the bigger budget you control the more authority is given to you.

Have you ever listened to the false congratulations given to children who have outgrown the ‘illness’? We’ll be here if you have any difficulty adapting. Be sure to stop in occasionally for a check up.

Have they ever gotten around to checking patients diets and perhaps cutting the level of sugars or has the soft drink industry seen that such research will never happen?

Take care and stay safe.

They do deserve our care. I don’t consider the ADHD scammers as among the ‘unfortunate’.

“Yup, she is black.”

Did this atrocity take polace because she is black?

Or because she is a homeless crazy person who should be institutionalized, for the overall good and wellbeing of the greater community?

I have seen plenty of crazy homeless white people.

You have seen the statistics whereby 2/3 of homeless are alcoholic/addicts and/or mentally ill?

There was even one time I consulted for a “well known” video games distributor and they are located..in a well fortified compound in Skid Row (due to cheap rent). You have no choice but to stay in your car to enter the compound and right outside, an angry-looking mob just stares at you..I pity those employees who have to commute there.

You mean Bandai on 7th street? I remember driving by that place last time I was in LA. What were they thinking putting it next to a restaurant and Gospel mission?

It was Gamefly, and right beside it was another “Alcatraz” tech company in Ubisoft, whose most popular game was Assassin’s Creed. Ubisoft moved out a year ago but Gamefly is still there. Pity. Usually if Im hungry I prefer to walk out of any office and go anywhere. It’s like a jail..
