Chamber’s Donohue: ‘Regulatory Tsunami’ Coming
IBD's Capital Hill ^ | 11/17/2010 | Sean Higgins

Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue indicated on Wednesday that the business group was looking past Congress and focusing more on federal regulators now that the election’s over. Donohue, during an address to members this morning, cited the threat of a “regulatory tsunami” as “the biggest single threat to job creation.”

He claimed that the EPA is advancing 29 proposed major rules and the Labor Department was pushing “at least 100 regulations and policy changes.” The new financial regulatory overhaul has 320 required rule makings, and ObamaCare creates 183 “agencies, commissions and panels.”

Can these be killed by defunding them at the house level?

Let's hear all the Wickard Commerce Clause apologists defend this.

Yes and you can bet on an investigative/oversight tsunami by the GOP to counter this.

Dear honest liberal, if you do exist. Do you really think your thought leaders are unaware this government oppression is destroying our country?

I’d like to hear from the “necessary and proper” crowd.

I'd like to hear from the "necessary and proper" crowd.

Certainly...

"...the authority to enact laws necessary and proper for the regulation of interstate commerce is not limited to laws governing intrastate activities that substantially affect interstate commerce. Where necessary to make a regulation of interstate commerce effective, Congress may regulate even those intrastate activities that do not themselves substantially affect interstate commerce.

This lame duck session will be a nightmare. S510 is another monstrous take over by the Marxists and they have the cooperation of useful idiots.

Notice when reading anything about S510, it always mentions how the regulations haven't been changed since the 30’s and doesn't take into consideration all the imported foods and blah blah blah...it's all for our safety etc. All while they are planning to put the screws deeper into our lives.

I will rephrase.

I would like to hear “necessary and proper” discussed where laws are supposed to originate, Congress.

As for the “Necessary,” from Congressman James Madison:

“Necessary” cannot be legitimately contrived into boundless power to Congress. As used and debated it must necessary to the end, that is, the defined powers. “. . . condemn the exercise of any power, particularly a great and important power, which is not evidently and necessarily involved in an express power.”

As for “Proper,” does the proposed bill violate our Natural or Constitutional rights? Does it involve a power retained by the states? If yes to either, it is not proper.

Is airline security executed by a federal agency necessary? I don't think so. We have the TSA primarily to relieve the airlines from expense and liability, not to provide security.

Are scanners and genital searches proper? Phht.

This may be the worst piece of legislation in my lifetime.

If I were king I'd spend my first day in office thinking of an appropriate punishment for Dick Durbin.

I'll believe it when I see it. They still haven't undone the damage caused by FDR & Johnson yet.

Been locked and loaded (not me, the firearm) for 2 years. Waiting for the trend to change to unlock and unload.
