As her once improbable reelection bid looks increasingly likely, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said Tuesday that she doesn’t hold a grudge against Republican leaders who poured money into the campaign and legal efforts of GOP rival Joe Miller.
Miller upset Murkowski in the Republican primary, but the senator launched a long-shot write-in campaign that may hand her another six years in office. ... “The expectation is that the party nominee will get the funds from [the National Republican Senatorial Committee], their coordinating funds, and they did that,” Murkowski told reporters at the Capitol.
“I knew that by running as a write-in candidate, I would not be my party’s nominee,” she said. “I could not expect that same level of support that other party nominees would have, and that’s the simple reality of it. And the good news for me is I’m standing here today and things are looking good.”
After Miller secured the nomination, Senate Republicans’ campaign committee threw its support and resources to the tea party-backed candidate, who was also endorsed by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. The campaign committee gave Miller staff and money, and placed independent expenditure ads in the state on his behalf.
It also raised money for Miller’s federal lawsuit seeking to block Alaska election officials from counting write-in ballots in which a candidate's name is not spelled correctly.

Well, the NRSC ought to be getting it soon enough. I spent about 5 minutes on the phone with them today. They were trying to pry a donation out of me, and I explained exactly why I wasn't donating. I mentioned 3 of the many RINOs including Murkowski, Graham, and Alexander. He said that "one bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch", to which I replied that it is a lot more than one bad apple. I pretty much let him know that I will only support conservative candidates, and that I will not let the party pick my candidates for me.
I think that more and more people need to do the same.
IMHO, the real lesson here is: people like their pork. Murkowski has publicly opposed resolutions banning earmarks and will continue in the tradition of Ted Stevens and her own father in bringing home the $$$. Miller wanted to end the way Alaska did business with the Feds. Right now, it looks like a plurality of Alaskan voters agree with Murky’s formula.

Looks like she stole it from the casual observer and that the local Republicans are too gutless to challenge it. Do you REALLY think most people believe that people wrote her in even though she lost the Primary???? I smell a Rat and this is on the same level as Harry Reid in Nevada having a 9 point swing in a single night. It’s a fraud period to anyone with half a brain. NEVER has this ever happen. I’m sorry but this woman is not that popular. If you are a voter in Alaska, then you just had your vote stolen.

What do you mean as far "as you can tell"? They just sent the staff and spent all of the money and ran all of the ads on his behalf, and none for Murkowski, but just somehow secretly hoped she would still win and their efforts would fail to help Miller? I guess that's a possible theory, but to say nothing substantial was done to help Miller is false. You posted in another thread that the GOP leadership made the decision to "keep her in the race despite another candidate winning the primary" as though it was up to them and not Murkowski herself to file as a write-in.
Not so sure - she polled strongly even when she was not offered as a choice by the pollster and people just volunteered her name - that indicated to me from the start this was going to be trouble.
I think they are good cops/bad cops, who is what depends on what ones politics are. But it really doesn’t seem to matter, it’s their private club once they’re there to do as they wish. They have to make a show of playing the game for the consumption of the peons. Especially when they’re in a position for their grandstanding not to matter, like being in the minority. I will be surprised if anything meaningful gets done on defunding Obamacare in a meaningful way, much less ever repealed. Already Harry Reid has plans ro expand government control over food. Yeah, they listened all right, then went in the back room so they could giggle.
They kept her committee positions. They would not have done that if they didn’t want her to win. Throwing a few bucks to Miller was likely done for cover - they also threw a few bucks to O’Donnell after their kingpin Rove bashed her like he’s never bashed anybody before. It’s pretty obvious that the RINO leadership didn’t want her to win either.
They wouldn’t have backed Rubio either if he weren’t such an incredibly good candidate. Crist was the tool of choice of the NRSC early on. They would gladly have had another compromiser in the Senate instead of the fairly conservative Rubio.
The party leadership needs to be cleaned out before I’ll EVER donate to the Republican party again.
Next time, please don’t pick a guy who wants to emulate East Germany and handcuffs the media. I’m sorry but is true. Conservatives didn’t lose in 2010. Losers lost.

I am totally convinced that the Senate’s RINO Cocktail Party set would have preferred the Democrat win over a Miller victory. Miller and the Tea Party threatens everything they love about their cozy insular Washington lifestyle.
I just hope Miller keeps fighting!
This is what we all should agree with and practice. I give an earful to GOP fundraisers when they call. Of course I let them know that I'm not flaming the phone bank caller but that I expect the gist of what I tell them to be passed on when a supervisor asks them how it's going.
Several have been quite responsive, they knew what or who my rage was aimed at.

Wasn’t Palin very popular because she ended the pork and stuff? This would be a complete turn-around!
No, I think it is because they were turned off by Miller’s statements and actions that had nothing to do with conservative principles.
There could well be some voter fraud, Sprite518. If there is, then by all means I hope someone can find the evidence and take it to court. But there’s other things to consider, IMHO.
-Murkowski probably got a fair number of crossover Democrats who thought she’d be better for “business as usual” than Miller and realized their own candidate (McAdams) had no chance at winning.
-She also went heavily after groups like certain native tribes who depend heavily on federal aid. Chances are they didn’t turn out in the primaries, but did turn out for Murkowski in the general because of her outreach and Miller’s stance on ending the flow of federal money to the sate.
-Miller stumbled badly the last few weeks of the campaign. Given that he barely won the primary, it’s not impossible that his support among some in the GOP was soft and his missteps cost him.

That probably did make a difference, to be sure. I disagree on the federal money issue, but I do respect where you are coming from.
Earmarking works when everyone else does it. You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.
But nobody in the House is going to vote just for Lisa’s earmarks. oh well.
