American Media Inc. filed on Wednesday for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection
American Media Inc, publisher of the National Enquirer and Star supermarket tabloids, as well as body-toning magazines such as Men's Fitness, filed on Wednesday for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Chief Executive David Pecker in a statement said staffing and publication schedules will be unaffected by the bankruptcy and American Media expects to be a "stronger and healthier company" after emerging from bankruptcy.

Per WSJ, the publisher listed debts of between $500 million and $1 billion. The parent company listed assets of less than $50,000, but its operations subsidiary pegged its assets at between $100 million and $500 million.
Damn! any media outlet that would give us the straight dope on a man then presumed divine and untouchable by the Great and Good has a soft spot in my heart.
People are starting to wake up.
Nobody gives a damn about what Lady gag ga or oprah thinks!
Can we start a Dead Pool for the Old York Times?
Pray for America
I may be the only one here on FR that will be sad to see printed magazines go. I love to read them in bed before going to sleep and at the doctors office. And who wants to take a laptop to read into the john with them?
Announced by David Pecker-head of American Media...
They beat up the wrong party.
If they had scooped the bathroom sex scandal on Republican Senator Larry Craig, they would have qualified for a federal bailout.
There are far better magazines to read than rags such as Time, Newsweek, People, National Enquirer, etc.
Let them all go down in to the dump where they belong.
That’s too bad. I guess I’ll look for something else to line bird cages with.
It hasn’t been the same since Ed Anger died any way.
“Thats too bad. I guess Ill look for something else to line bird cages with.”
I hear ya. I’ll have to look elsewhere for fire starter.
heh heh - Pecker - heh heh heh heh heh
yes, the economist or National Geographic for two.
I dumped NatGeo way back in the early eighties when they turned into shills for Al Gore and Global Warming.
Did I say “shills”? They practically gave old Al regular oral favors.
I wish the supermarkets would replace all this crap with more food.
For what it’s worth I believe the National Enquirer is a notch over the
Chicago Tribune, LA Times, WaPo and MSNBC.
The niche that iPad filled.
I suspect you live in one of Moochelle's food deserts. Other than dark chocolate coconut/pretzel M&Ms, what other gastronomic item is unobtainable in the grocery store?
