Senate Democrats back TSA 'virtual strip searches'

Foes of the Transportation Security Agency's new air-screening procedures, including law enforcement-style pat-downs and what have been called "virtual strip searches," had hoped that today's Senate hearing would lead to a privacy outcry on Capitol Hill. Not quite. The hearing quickly cleaved along partisan lines, with Democratic senators applauding the Obama administration and Republicans offering only modest criticism.

"Mr. Pistole, you're doing a great job," Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat and chairman of the Senate committee overseeing air travel, told TSA chief John Pistole, a former FBI agent who's had the job since July. For emphasis, Rockefeller added a few minutes later: "I think you're doing a terrific job." Sen. Amy Klobuchar, a Minnesota Democrat, admitted right away that "I have been a fan of the advanced imaging technology." American air travelers, she said, "have to understand that this is being done for their best interests and their safety."

As the Thanksgiving travel period draws near, the reaction to TSA's new procedures has been visceral and sharply critical, driven by cell phone recordings of security line incidents, privacy and health concerns, and Web sites such as the Drudge Report, which published a photograph of a hands-on examination of a nun with the caption: "THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON."

Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat, suggested that the public outcry was a problem of education: if Americans learned more about the TSA's new procedures, they wouldn't object to the new searches.

How many of those applauding this virtual strip search method have actually flown on commercial airlines and gone through this?? Fly commercial for a few months, then talk to us about “doing it for our own good”.

They wouldn’t like it if it was being done by the Bush administration, and I wouldn’t either.

Intellectual honesty is another thing that divides us.

"THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON."

This is the face of the Islamic terrorists' greatest victory.

The reason why we don't accept progressivism is that we've not been reeducated...yet.

We would already have utopia if we'd just agree with submit to them.

From the RAPISCAN Website:

Is the Secure 1000 Safe? Yes. The Secure 1000 complies with all applicable regulations and standards that exist in the United States.

These regulations include OSHA regulations, Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations and Food and Drug
Administration regulations.

They are basing “safety” by stating it complies with government regulations... there’s a warm & fuzzy for you.

Oh good Lord ... the Americans objecting most strenuously to the TSA's new procedures are the ones who have experienced the TSA's new procedures. If there is any justice in this world, McCaskill will be voted out in 2012 and undergo the full grope along with the rest of the proles when she flies home in 2013.

They are going to get us used to the idea that government people can do ANYTHING to us. This is a wedge issue and should be used as such by Republicans. There are hosts of “demographic groups” that absolutely despise this. Personally, I’d rather be groped than photographed naked, but both are done to me without probable cause by government authority in an airport now and it’s unconstitutional, and even more deeply, an infringement on my basic decency.

Do you all notice the timing of this, right after the elections? What would have happened if Obo and his gang had announced this two weeks before the elections?

But the Dems are for it and the Republicans are kind of against it, just kinda. And the ACLU is advocating for our enemies, somewhere else.

But the Dems who hated the Patriot Act now love the heavy hand when they are excused from it.

I’ve had it with how this war is being fought. High risk is high risk, period. It’s not about “equal justice”; it’s war. We can’t allow victory mosques. It’s absurd for low risk multi-generational citizens to be treated like terror suspects. I’m sick of it. Everyone is.

This is not a matter of “equal justice for all”; it’s war.

Make a list.

Just remember in 2012:

These are the people who want a stranger to see your little girl/boy naked. Failing that, they want them groped.

Should be fairly easy to get them thrown out.

Sometime in the future, a Muslim will get on a plane with a bomb inserted up his ass.

He will get through the X-ray machine.

After that happens, TSA will be obliged to do cavity searches in the name of security.

I want to see Clair Mcaskil volunteer to be the first to bend over for a full inspection.

You are right, that is the next step, but don't wait for someone with a bomb to get on board.

This all needs to stop now, before it advances. We need to rebel now, and one way is to use the dem lines against them. Such as: A woman's body is her own to do with as she pleases; the dems are pro-choice, so I choose to opt-out; etc.....to refuse the pat down grope fest. There is not enough known about the long term effects of the scanners to assume they are safe. I wouldn't go through one of those no matter what.
