Pence: Don't Forget Social Issues; Decision on Presidential Run 'Sometime Early Next Year'
ABC ^ | 11/18/10 | Rick Klein

Posted on 11/18/2010 2:20:54 PM PST by pissant

Rep. Mike Pence this week left his post in House leadership, with the wide presumption that he’ll run for president or for governor of Indiana in 2012.

He told us on ABC’s “Top Line” that he’ll make up his mind “sometime early next year,” and said that while “I just love” Sarah Palin, her decision on whether to run won’t impact his.

“Our decision is going to be wholly dependent on taking the time to prayerfully consider where we can make the most difference on the conservative values that brought us to Washington to begin with,” said Pence, R-Ind.

“So really our decision is a really personal decision. It's about where we feel a call to serve. But with regards to Sarah Palin -- she's a force of nature. I just can’t help it -- I just love her. I just think she's got a bold and courageous voice for conservative values. She doesn't apologize and I like her style.”

He added, “We'll make that decision, I really believe with all my heart, not as a reflection of who else is running, but what we feel a call to do.”

Good. Sounds like he's running.

Sound like he would be an OUTSTANDING replacement for Uber-RINO Lugar.

I would have no problem supporting Mike Pence were he to get the nomination.

His weak area was immigration. But the way he got hammered in 2007 for trying to compromise with the amnesty crowd, I think he learned his lesson. We’ll make sure of that. But other than that, he’s been rock solid.

Who was the last rep elected? Grover Cleveland? Not a bad guy but I still remember his touch back amnesty idea.

He’s actually a great candidate on all fronts, except for the fact that he’s a relatively unknown Congressman from a small Republican state. In this day and age, maybe all the traditional rules are out the window and he would do well.

Part of me wants to see him run for governor, kick butt in that office and be a candidate in 4-8 years, another part of me thinks he might be a great candidate now. In fact, I think he would be an excellent candidate now, I just hate to abandon my standard for backing only successful executives for POTUS.

True, but it’s still better than all the other amnesty queens who are threatening to run.

The guys a freaking congresscritter.

He's going to find no one knows who he is just like Duncan did.

Maybe you can set up an altar to him like you did to before.

I'll gladly buy some candles for you to light. Especially if he gets more votes than "unsure"......

In the modern age , relatively unknown Congressman have not been able to get elected President. Not even well known ones. The next President will be a Gov or former Gov. Being part of Washington is a HUGE minus right now.

He would elevate the level of the field. He just doesn’t have the baggage of the rest.

He has a 99.54 ACU rating. Pretty hard to beat. I can't imagine that he's thinking of a gubernatorial run over a presidential run but we'll see.

How “rock solid” was it of him to vote Puerto Rican statehood during this current Congress?

I like Mike Pence a lot, but let’s not pretend that he’s “rock solid” or that he has ‘fire-in-the-belly.’

There is no perfect candidate, but Pence can be a GOOD one.

I like Pence, but something is really off here.

He's a congresscritter. He also wouldn't take on Evan Bayh in a senate run when he could have done so, nor run for governor.

Congresscritters don't become presidents, and neither to ex-ambassadors to the UN, no matter how much we like them for their stands.

These guys are all going to make certain the conservative vote gets split again and Mitt's gonna glide right in like McCain did.

For those of us who want Mike Pence to be a future Presidential nominee, it is important that he elevate himself to A-List contender. He will do this by becoming governor of Indiana.

If he chooses to be the latest casualty in the “THIS time a local Congressman is REALLY going to be the next president” fantasy, he will instantly ruin any potential future run by having shown himself as impatient and overambitious.

Pence has a real shot here - a REAL shot - at being our President in the future. He is someone I would gladly go to battle for; I really hope he is smart enough to do this right and follow the winning path.

The straw poll win at the one conservative gathering (when Sarah Palin was in Iowa making her speech), seems to have gone to his head.

I’m not going to knock him but I understand your point.

I would enthusiastically support him, were he our nominee, but not right now for many of the reasons you’ve articulated.
