Congressman Mike Pence, Sen. Jim DeMint Introduce Legislation To Make Bush-Era Tax Cuts Permanent
ABC News ^ | 11/18/10 | Michael Falcone

Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., left little room for compromise on the issue of extending the expiring income tax cuts, suggesting that if they are not made permanent by the end of the year, Republicans should redouble their efforts to do so in the new Congress.

Pence said on Thursday that he was backing up that pledge with legislation co-sponsored by Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., to permanently extend the cuts for both the middle class and wealthy Americans.

“I really believe that the last thing we should do in the worst economy in 25 years is allow a tax increase on any American,” Pence told ABC’s Jonathan Karl and Rick Klein on “Top Line.” “And we shouldn't do it in 6 weeks, we should do it in 24 months or 36 months, we ought to start the road to recovery by saying to the American people all the current tax rates are the tax rates going forward, permanently. And then we can go to work on putting our fiscal house in order and pursuing the kind of pro-growth policy that'll really create growth.”

There are already several pieces of legislation pending to extend the tax cuts that are set to expire at the end of the year, and other members of Congress, like the incoming chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Rep. Dave Camp, R-Mich., have said they will proceed with similar measures.

Congress is expected to consider the tax cut issue when they return from the Thanksgiving recess.

Good. It would be a long shot, but the sentiment is nice.

GOP needs to play hardball on this. If the taxes are not extended, it will destroy what's left of the economy. Especially since it was Democrats who didn't want to make them permanent to begin with.

Let the Dems own this. "The rich" argument isn't going to work anymore.

We need a long term commitment on these taxes BECAUSE of where we are at...

Entrepeneurs will not rebuild their businesses without at least a 5 year plan in mind...

It doesn’t need to be permanent permanent. We really should abolish the current tax code and start over.

These guys are great. Keep it up. Make sure to correct the state run media when they use the term “CUTS FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS” - NO ONE is talking about “CUTS” only to keep the existing tax rates that are in effect now.

“Entrepeneurs will not rebuild their businesses without at least a 5 year plan in mind...”

Things aren’t made as good as they used to because everyone has short term thinking. They can’t plan ahead because they don’t know what to expect from tax legislation and they don’t know what the dollar will be worth even a few months from now.

No more appeasement of leftists. We conservatives should realize better than any that appeasement never works. It only empowers and enriches instead of weaken the culprit.

Let the minority leftists attack the mainstream Americans; damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead restoring sanity to our country!

Should be called “Americas tax breaks”.

And the next day fire another volley via a new bill for new tax cuts. Never let up.

spending money never costs anything. it’s only when you want to let people keep more of what is theirs in the first place, that “costs” money. if you ask a Lib/Dem

I like this. Make the Dems defend their position to NOT extend the tax cuts.

Pence et al. should reframe the issue. Allowing the rate cuts to expire is a tax increase plain and simple.

The names you mentioned didn’t suck because they were legislators.

They suck because they are liberals.
