WASHINGTON – Republicans in the House have blocked a bill that would have extended jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed beyond the holiday season.

The most recent extension of jobless benefits expires Dec. 1. Two million people will lose benefits averaging $310 a week nationwide by the end of the year.

Sure, there are a few tiny jobs out there ... but being someone who has always worked “crap” jobs, the crap jobs are filled.

For every position at Mcdonalds, there is 80 applications.

And that is a problem ... and if you can’t see that that is a problem ...

People losing their jobs because of the economic downturn was NOT their own fault ... and I dare someone to tell me that otherwise.

The economic downturn was caused by governments bad policies ... housing bubble followed by stupid business practices from major corporations and reward by the government... plain and simple.

The criticisms of those who blame the victims here are misguided and should be instead aimed at the cause.

Those who blame the victims are not just misguided, but also ignorant of reason.

I contend that it is the peoples fault, the majority of the people who have voted for over 100 years to destroy capitalism in this country. They wanted to shrink they gap between the wealthy and the poor... well it's shrinking, now everyone is poorer... and guess what? the people that had nothing before, still have nothing. But that's ok because now everything is “fairer”.

Now they are reaping what they have sowed.

Does that mean EVERYONE deserves this? no. But life isn't fair. If you live in a liberal state, I suggest you vote with your feet.

spiltmilk,I'm sorry for what you are going through.

If you want to freepmail me also then I Know I can help, with ideas only though. And no I don't charge for advice or helping people.

I know most people don't like to take advice but I only put suggestions out there and people can take some or none at all.

I think I Have solved a lot of problems including other people's problems. For example this is how I would save America:

1. Deport all illegals and build a fence.
2. Abolish all government agencies as in the EPA, TSA, FEC, FCC,FDA,IRS ,HUD,HHS, government schools, etc. This can be done by making all laws expire after 3 years. So all laws , laws that mandate agencies, spending , and make it easy for unions will have to be created again every 3 years. So only the laws the people really want are kept.
3. Deal with China and other countries manipulating their currency.
4. Repeal every law as in 2 above, Repeal every law, Amendment etc. to 1890. Then America was growing faster than all other countries, had a limited government , and manufactored more than all other countries put together and we did it all without the technology we have now and with only 1/4 the population.

I think I'm smarter than anyone. Maybe I'm delusional who knows LOL. But I haven't heard anyone including any politician talk about all these solutions together.

P.S. I'm working on becoming a billionaire too. I don't have any money yet but if I hit it big , then I would give you and the other Freepers on this thread a million $ and to freerepublic and other conservative sites. I'd be the opposite of Soros LOL. Well we can all dream can't we?

Anyway , good luck to you and all those other Freepers here who are looking for a job. I am praying for you all and have you all in my thoughts.

You can only pay people just so long to NOT WORK before you run out of other peoples money.

You cannot expect society to pick up the tab for your personal failures

You've spoken up for the person you are here better than I ever could. Thank you for being honest. I still would not wish my circumstances on you. Good luck.

I have paid multiples in federal tax withholdings this year vs. what money I'm eligible for before losing my job. I'm not yet into federal extensions. I will be in December. Is that "my" money coming back to me, or other's people's?

Well good morning to you too.

lookit, everybody I know on unemployment, which is about five people in my surround, has another source of income, OFF the books. Most times it’s not full time type of jobs, helping on a construction project, even walking dogs.

The sorts of jobs that they probably wouldn’t do for fatigue if they were working instead of collecting a check, usually part time type of things.

But again, I said it was anecdotal stuff and I stressed I didn’t have statistics. But by me, these types of things would likely be done by a small business or even teenagers. Point being, it all adds to the general malaise of the economy.

Instead of being polite, mock me, ask me if I knew about recent elections, make me look stupid.

It makes you look so intelligent.

I’d have to know the exact dollar amount you paid in and exactly how long you have been unemployed. My brother is a 99 weeker. He was a pizza delivery boy....at 37 y/o.

You think he just MIGHT have started dipping into others’ pockets by now?

You see, conservatives see that world how is actually is, not how we would LIKE it to be. And I know human nature, and knowing human nature... I know that most people are LAZY. Knowing that most people are lazy, it becomes quite easy to predict their behavior. If you provide for someones every NEED for X amount of time, they will sit on their lazy butts until X amount of time is up. It's that simple.

Is there any way you could write a book on all of this? Or teach a seminar on how simple it is? Funny how you talk about people seeing the world how they would LIKE it to be and then go on and paint millions of unemployed with a broad brush based on one example. See where I'm going here?

In other words, the rats are licking their wounds and made this a “throw-away” to criticize GOP later. That’s a good sign. They aren’t feeling particularly united right now. Time for some tough love.

I don’t know your brother and thus am unaware of what level of taxes he might have paid. Perhaps he has exceed his contribution. I’ll cover your end ok? I pay about $63 a week in withholding on my own unemployment. I’ll pay his check, you pay for the Stimulus Highway signs, ok? Is that fair? As for me, we’re talking deep 2011 before I pass the contribution line. So that’s two people’s hands out of your pocket due to unemployment and I hope that will let you sleep better at night.

This is one of those times it pays to be a fatalist.

Sad that people need negative pressure to seek work, but like Jesus said, “There will always be the poor.” Go against scripture, and you are doomed to fail. Extended unemployment will never be a good idea. In that respect, I’m a fatalist, same as when Jesus said there would be wars and rumors of wars. The only peace that last for 1000 years is when He sits on the throne. FRegards ....

You REALLY have it all wrong, but I understand your feelings. You aren’t dragging the economy down, but what about the guys who game the system? They ARE. People plan to get unemployment. The more it’s expanded, the more some people will game it. To pay you, how many jerks do tax payers have to bribe at the same time?

and to think all this time I thought jobs come from business, not from unemployed people. Guess what? Businesses aren’t hiring! Fix THAT problem and then the UI extension isn’t an issue.

I know this is anecdotal, but I work with someone who is receiving unemployment benefits. They closed the hospital she was working at and now she works part-time. As long as she doesn't work over a certain number of hours she still gets the benefits. Naturally, she doesn't want to work too many hours and will often give away shifts to manage it. I can't help but think this happens elsewhere.

Point being, she is perfectly able to work more hours, but why should she when she can get free cash courtesy of her co-workers.

No question there are. There was one of the 30 or so who were laid off in my place who were happy about it. I have a friend in a union who has a down season every year and collects for weeks in the summer time. No doubt there are plenty who are fraudulently collecting and making no effort. If it bothers you that much, drop a dime. Call your local office and they will open an investigation. People are required to demonstrate effort in getting back to work. Now, it's a completely ridiculous burden of proof, but other than that, I don't know the course of action to suggest to you.

What I do know is my own experience and I see way too much misinformation and ridiculous assumptions from people here and I am shocked by it. I use this site as a resource for all news topics because I trust that I will read honest, informed discussion that is censored out from the regular news media. I will continue to do so, but I can tell you from my experience in this thread, there are a lot of hollering, unaware people are here as well.
