(CBS) A flight attendant and cancer survivor said she was forced to remove and show her prosthetic breast to a TSA agent during a security pat-down.
Cathy Bossi of Charlotte, who has been a flight attendant for the past 32 years, told CBS Affiliate WBTV that in August she was asked to go through the new full-body scanners at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
As a 3-year breast cancer survivor Bossi said she didn't want the added radiation through her body, but reluctantly agreed.
"The TSA agent told me to put my ID on my back," Boss told WBTV correspondent Molly Grantham. "When I got out of there, she said because my ID was on my back, I had to go to a personal screening area."
Bossi was taken to a private room where two female Charlotte TSA agents began what she calls an "aggressive" pat-down.
Bossi said the exam halted when they got around to feeling her right breast - the one where she'd had surgery.
"She put her full hand on my breast and said, 'What is this?' Bossi recalled. "And I said, 'It's my prosthesis because I've had breast cancer.' And she said, 'Well, you'll need to show me that.'"
Bossi was asked to remove her prosthetic breast from her bra and show it to the agent.
She said she did not take down the name of the agent because of the "horrific" nature of the experience.
"It just blew my mind. I couldn't believe that somebody had done that to me,'" she told WBTV.
Bossi has since contacted the flight attendants union's Legislative Affairs Team.
She says there are better alternatives to such intrusive examinations.
"There are blowers and there are dogs that could sniff out bombs," she said. "There's no reason to have somebody's hands touching your body parts."
A TSA representative told WBTV that agents are allowed to ask to see and touch any passenger's prosthetic, but aren’t supposed to remove them. Later, the TSA contacted the station and said they would review the Bossi matter.
We’re not humans as far as these people are concerned. They think we’re sheep. And do you know what? If we let them continue in this vein, they’re right.
I have a hip implant, they will play heck trying to remove that.
It’s easy to understand how Hitler was able to recruit concentration camp personnel.
Give some people a badge and some authority over others, and they cease to be human.
I wonder if a woman is wearing a sanitary napkin, because of her period, will she be forced to remove it, so it can be examined?
Isn’t there a fair risk to pilots, cop-pilots & flight attendants from repeated exposure to the ‘low level doses of radiation from the screeners?
I would think that immune systems could be compromised & serious health problems could be in their futures.
Assistants in a dental office are covered with a full body blanket of lead just for taking your tooth x-rays.
How is this any different??
I can see where these people could get 3 screenings a day.
BTW- IF a PILOT wants to cause a problem- he doesn’t have to carry a weapon. He can just crash the plane with all aboard.
The entire thing is out of control.
Over 30 illegals were getting flight training at a school & we are all getting probed & embarassed.

I’ve been presenting that question for several days and no one seems to know the answer.
I read on another thread that women are starting to wear sanitary napkins so that they have a “shield” against the hands of the TSA agent.
What a shame I'm on the other side of menopause. I'd make the effort to find one of those hippy-dippy reusable sponges, and use it.
I”m really terribly concerned that they think the people who are on the plane who are supposed to help in case of problems ARE NOT TRUSTED and have to be searched for explosives. Something is so wrong with this picture.
While I don’t think it makes any sense to subject flight crews to any of this crap & Crapitano is a complete moron, I wonder if every single one of these stories is 100% true.
I just asked a contact of mine at TSA & he said this would violate their procedures, if the story is true.

hired him as an airport screener after the Air Force kicked him out for making
statements supporting Osama bin Laden and praising the 9/11 attacks.
Ahmed worked almost a year before enough people at the TSA found that
he previously had his security clearance revoked and had to let him go.
To be fair, much of this is pre grope policy. You can tell by the uniforms.

I am extremely, dangerously allergic to latex. Are they wearing latex gloves? Do they have vinyl replacements?

and patient. But when wronged, WATCH OUT! When crossed, they will roar back. Remember Pearl Harbor! That is the American Spirit. As a foreigner and an elitist, Mr. Obama and his inner circle sorely misjudges matters.
If those “in charge” can force ordinary people to undergo public humiliation, people get used to government control. I guess we are going through basic training so we will follow orders without question or resistance.

Hell NO, they don’t change gloves. I’ve never seen that. it is very third world if you ask me...very unsanitary.
