Across Texas, 60,000 babies of noncitizens get U.S. birthright (each year)
DALLAS morning news. ^ | 8/8/2010 | SHERRY JACOBSON

...the debate could resonate in Texas, where not only 1.5 million illegal immigrants are estimated to reside but at least 60,000 babies are added to their households annually.

Parkland Memorial Hospital delivers more of those babies than any other hospital in the state. Last year at Parkland, 11,071 babies were born to women who were noncitizens, about 74 percent of total deliveries. Most of these women are believed to be in the country illegally.

"If both parents are here illegally, should there be a reward for their illegal behavior?" Kyl said recently on a Sunday morning talk show.

Changing the Constitution, however, is not as simple as getting a bill through Congress by majority vote.

In Texas, between 60,000 to 65,000 babies achieve U.S. citizenship annually by being born in the state's hospitals, according to a tally released by the state's Health and Human Services Commission.

Last year, such births represented almost 16 percent of the total births statewide.

Between 2001 and 2009, births to illegal immigrant women totaled 542,152 in Texas alone.

"The next 10 years will be an even more transformative decade demographically for Texas," said Dr. Roberto Calderon, an associate history professor at the University of North Texas....

He speculated that the Republicans probably were aware of this ongoing demographic shift and how it might threaten their party since Hispanic voters tend to support Democrats.

"They're expecting what used to be safe Republican seats on the state and federal level will no longer be so safe."

"In the last decade in Texas, over 60 percent of the state population increase was due to Hispanics," he said.

This is the best assessment of the situation.

Thanks. I'll start studying.

According to modern day interpretation of the 14th Amendment, all of these children are “Natural Born Citizens.”

you've had a long running crusade against the state of Texas

Oh man....Here we go...

Why are you such a whiny baby when it comes to reality?

Why don't you start your own site that bans people that post articles about Texas?

I think 60,000 is a gross underestimation.

I see them everyday here in the Austin area. Teenagers with 3 or 4 little ones (and a pregnant belly) on nearly every block.

There has to be more than that.

Oh man....Here we go...

Quit playing victim. Anyone who's watched your postings knows that you've got a real hate on for the state of Texas.

If you really cared about this subject, you could have easily posted any number of stories about the nationwide problem with illegal immigration. I found dozens in the last few minutes.

But no, you've got to single out the state of Texas for special criticism, when all of the border states are being crushed by the illegal invasion.

For the record, I'm a native Californian, and care deeply about what's happening to that state. The same way that I care about what's happening to every US state. They're all a part of my country.

What I object to, is your "dump on Texas" campaign. Doesn't seem very patriotic to me.

While you are at it, you can look-up how many illegal aliens Gov. Perry and Gov. Schwarzenegger have granted In-State Tuition to state universities.

You'll get no disagreement from me on that. Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it. I don't play favorites between states of the union, nor do I harbor any animosity toward any state.

I do, however, harbor a great deal of animosity toward those politicians and pro-illegal groups who got us in this mess.

I lived in Riverside county in the ‘70’s they should have given the State back to Mexico then..We have been back lately and it’s in worse shape now... So don’t Knock Texas unless You have lived in the State....I’ll take Gov. Perry over Gov. Moonbeam anyday.

The Costs of Birthright Citizenship
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2585416/posts

Feere’s research found that the “overwhelmingly majority of the world’s countries do not offer automatic citizenship to everyone born within their borders.” Only 30 countries out of 194 offer automatic citizenship, CIS confirmed. Of the 31 counties listed on the International Monetary Fund’s list of advanced economies, only the United States and Canada grant automatic birthright citizenship.

No country in Europe, a continent many liberals often cite for its supposedly superior views on everything from government health care to high tax rates, grants automatic citizenship.

Totally agree. I think you could double that.

BINGO....Right in the ten ring dale...

I've been saying for years, were paying for our own demise....A country full of ignorant, uneducated people, will be much easier for a socialist government to completely control.

No one suggested that wasn't happening...

Our economy is in the toilet, but there are daily threads about it.

After a search, I found no one had posted this article...Is there a rule here that forbids articles about Texas?

Would you rather no one ever saw this article?

Maybe you should try to have it deleted? Maybe complain or hit the abuse button...If it makes ya feel better, go for it.

Busses run from the border specifically to bring illegals to give birth at Parkland. It is well know and we pay for their births.

We are paying in more ways than most realize...Their taking jobs, taking affordable housing, jamming the jails, our courts, our schools, doctors offices, choking off our health care, and overloading our social services....

All this while the conga-line of millions continues to enter the U.S. illegally, year in, year out.

That's funny. You posted nearly the exact same rant to me the last time we had this argument. Your talking points sure don't change much .. LOL

Look - there's nothing stopping you from posting whatever you like here, as long as it doesn't violate the house rules. The only complaint I have with your posting behavior, is that you post an inordinate number of articles to this site that cast the state of Texas in a negative light.

There's no doubt whatsoever that this is some sort of hobby of yours. That hobby (or obsession) is incompatible with the stated aims and purposes of Free Republic. What you're doing isn't helpful, and does nothing to forward conservatism, or our fight to bring this country closer to its Founding Ideals.

Pointing out the major issues which affect our nation, and the individual states, is something we all have to do, in order to impress our collective intelligence and wisdom toward solving those things. But singling out one particular state for special and consistent castigation is destructive in my view.

In fact, it's especially harmful in light of the fact that, the one state you've chosen to dump on, just happens to be one of the leading bastions of conservatism in the country (despite its troubles with illegal immigration).

Why you have such a hate on for this one state is still a complete mystery to me (and I'm sure, many others).

Lastly, I want to let you know that I spent years battling California haters online. I take consistent attacks against any part of my country personally. I'm afraid that I WILL object whenever I notice a consistent pattern of attack on the USA.
