With more than half of the absentee ballots received in the 1st Congressional District race counted, Rep. Tim Bishop (D-Southampton) has pulled ahead of challenger Randy Altschuler (R-St. James) by 15 votes.
SNIP
According to Ryan, 2,004 of the remaining ballots more than 40 percent of them are from registered Republicans; 1,826 are from registered Democrats, 920 are from unaffiliated voters, 160 are from people registered to the Independence Party, 137 are from registered Conservatives, and the remaining 50 are from others.
Looks like Buerkle will be the last gain (net +63).
This sucks.
In other undecided races:
CA-11: Jerry McNerney (D) leads by 1,783.
CA-20: Jim Costa (D) leads by 2,742.
NY-25: Ann Marie Buerkel (R) leads by 259.
TX-27: Blake Farenthold (R) leads by 794.
Buerkle is now up 400+ with a very GOP county left to report.
I counted Buerkle and Farenthold in the +63 net gain. Most likely this will be the final result.
Thanks to vecchio.
Cool! This sounds very encouraging. How long before those Republican-dominated ballots are counted?
Unfortunately, it’s not encouraging. The votes counted so far had a similar Republican advantage, and the Democrat won them by close 10%. Too many Republicans are defecting.
Why the strong posts against Romney?
This year?? That doesn't make sense, unless these voters are complete morons.
“Why the strong posts against Romney?”
I didn’t put that in, somehow it got automatically inserted when I posted the article.
I understand there was a nasty primary in September, and some Republican local officials endorsed the Democrat in the general.
“Too many Republicans are defecting.”
C’mon, we all know that isn’t the problem. The Dem is gaining ground because of the cemetery vote! That’s always the issue in a close election.
I disagree. Sometimes we lose because more people voted for the Democrat.
By the way, Dems have lost most of the closest elections.
“By the way, Dems have lost most of the closest elections.”
Such as Algore who didn’t steal quite enough votes in Florida in 2000. But, Stuart Smalley stole enough votes in Minnesota to become U.S. Senator a couple of years ago. Christine Gregoire stole enough votes a few years back to retain her Governor’s seat in Washington state.
Perhaps in this most recent cycle, Dems have lost a lot of close elections, but my guess is that they would have lost by a lot more, they just failed in their efforts to steal enough votes - they came close as you suggest, but fell short - incompetent even at theft!
I agree, in urban areas this happens frequently. But NY-1 is a suburban district where most of the local officials are Republicans.
These absentee voters were contacted numerous times, by phone and in person, by both campaigns. The campaigns were actively looking for fraud and/or grounds for challenging ballots.
Absent any evidence, I don’t think losing this race can be blamed on fraud.
Was that the whole story? You have a SNIP in there, but when I tried twice to link the source, all I got were Microsoft windows prompts to update my browser.
Motherbleeper!
I wonder how many snow bird scumbags (like Bishop’s parents maybe) illegally double voted in both Florida and New York.
Any Republicans that endorsed the far-left democrat Bishop are pawns whom we should sacrifice.
Well, it ain’t over yet. A 15-vote lead with a few thousand votes left to count (spread out throughout the district) isn’t exactly insurmountable.
Remember that Lawn Guyland Republicans are essentially moderate Dems anywhere else, which explains why LIdiot voters support RINOs locally and deems in national and congressional elections.
