Its one of the most beautiful times of the year in the lovely Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, when the trees are gorgeous hues of crimson and gold, and the sweet smell of hot apple cider is in the brisk autumn air. As you walk in and out of little village colonials and saltbox houses donning fall mums and pumpkins on their porches, youre hit with that waft of burning fireplace aroma the sort of scene that gives you that comfy feeling of peace and contentment.
But turn the corner and that picturesque scene is disrupted by a tiny sea of purple t-shirts and angry faces. Yep, you got it its the SEIU! And theyre not in the holiday spirit, apparently.
Pocono Medical Center, a mid-sized, not-for-profit community hospital nestled in the Pocono Mountains near East Stroudsburg University, has been in SEIUs crosshairs for months. The union has been demanding a closed shop at the hospital, despite the desires of other workers, and has since made it the crux of its contract negotiations. They were out protesting last week, making their demands known. (Not many from Pocono Medical Center participated in the protest, so they resorted to recruiting some nearby friends to join them).

The SEIU is proof that communism is hard to kill and is still alive and well all over the planet.
Hospitals in the south don’t seem to be as “infiltrated” by these union thugs YET! I recently began to volunteer at our local hospital in Florida. An administrator told me that volunteers save the hospital over $2 million a year. I casually shared this information with an acquaintance from upstate New York, who works at a large city hospital. She immediately replied, with no qualms, “Oh, our union would never allow that!”. AND THAT’S A GOOD THING?
How much of our skyrocketing medical costs are due to union problems?
Not just expenses....
With the union comes overlooked incompetence, just plain laziness, higher absenteeism, sometimes downright meaness, ad nauseum.
A few years ago both myself and my granddaughter were involved in separate auto accidents and wound up in the same hospital.
It was awful!
She was on her way to begin nursing school when they were hit by another vehicle.
It got so bad that I feared for my life and told the doctor that either he was going to discharge me or my wrestler boys were goint to carry me out on a door!
When we were both safely back home I asked K. if she still was going for her nursing studies. She snarled, “I ain’t going to be no G__ D-— UNION nurse!
And she isn’t.
