'Sarah Palin's Alaska' Ratings Plummet (Down 40% in viewership from last week)
Hollywood Reporter ^ | 11/23/2010

After setting a TLC ratings record last week, Sarah Palin's reality show plummeted for its second episode.

Sarah Palin's Alaska fell 40% on Sunday night to 3 million viewers.

Not many were in the key adult demo either. Only 885,000 viewers were ages 18-49, dropping 44% from last week.

In fact, the median age of the show is 57 -- that's 15 years older than TLC's average.

TLC expected a ratings drop coming off the high-flying premiere; executives realized some of their numbers were driven by sheer curiosity rather than eagerness to see an Alaska-based travelogue reality show. Competition from Sunday Night Football and the American Music Awards may have impacted the numbers as well.

"We are very happy with the ongoing strength of Sarah Palin's Alaska, and it continues to drive big ratings gains for TLC," said a network spokesperson, who noted Conan had a similar drop.

Tonight, Bristol Palin will be on the Dancing With the Stars finale and there should be no shortage of viewers there given the controversy surrounding her improbable continued

And why would reporting the ratings of a TV show about Alaska be akin to poking a stick in the hornet’s nest?

I liked week 2 more than week one. It convinced me to set the DVR for the rest of the series.

I loved the part where the guys in Homer, wanted pictures with Palin, TODD Palin. I was howling....

However those who thought that the show would gain audience as it progressed appear to have been mistaken.

It might gain audience size later, but the first episode presented a lot of buzz and curiosity. Naturally, the viewing size will be large at the outset. But a 3 million viewership is a good showing nonetheless.

You certainly do like to play “poke the FReepers”.

I don’t know what this means.

You're a liar.

If I had a daughter, I’d rather she was watching Sarah Palin and her family outing in Alaska than the trash that came across the screen during the American Music Awards. I flipped it on during the commercials and couldn’t believe the slutty looking, no-class women on that show.

That's pretty normal for a new show.

The Leftist are just hoping her show drops off the air. They are so full of hate it’s unbelievable. Nevertheless, if you read between the lines these degenerate psycho paths hope this means that people do not want Sarah Palin as President.

Look I’m conservative and like Sarah a lot, but I will not watch her show. I prefer watching the NFL and channels like History, Military, Discovery, Fox News and Fox Business. The rats are so desperate. Think this election really shook them up. Obama and his goons seem to be on the war path.

The problem is not the number of viewers, but rather that the people watching are outside of the demographic that advertisers want to reach.

They need to do something to attract younger viewers.

God what a hit! I mean a show that beats out the season finale viewership for Mad Men(2.5) million, SP’s Alaska (3 million). Is something to be upset about IMO. / sarc

Yeah, “only” 3 million. Now, what are the audience sizes for all those other pundits? Sgt Schultz, Chrissie, Larry, Joe, Olberdork (is he back, not that I really care)?

Ooh, Ooh, Only 3 million viewers. I don’t want to watch that show.(with all the halibut clubbing, shotgun-shooting, fish-gutting,etc.) I want to watch MSNBC with Keith Olbermann and “tingly leg” Mathews!

I don’t think you need (or are in a position) to provide McGruff with any “friendly” advice. You want some friendly advice? Get that shift key checked, I think it’s sticking.
BTW, what was the point of posting this hard-hitting piece of journalism from the Hollywood Reporter?
