That’s a very compelling report. Has there been any reasoned effort, by the proponents, to refute any of the facts, assumptions, or analysis?

“Why does California need high speed rail?”

If you live in Modesto and want to get to Fresno in a hurry at other peoples expense the high speed rail makes sense. Also, it is very good for the labor union goons that will build and operate it. If you don’t fall into these categories nobody cares what you think about it.

Passenger rail is the most inefficient method of moving people from Point A to Point B regardless of how fast the train can be made to travel.

Freight is the only thing that can move efficiently with point to point delivery. Any corporation that needs freight in the bulk that train consists have, has a siding for delivery/shipment. And if they don't, the train has an intermodal terminal for pickup and delivery by container.

Even the Acela is downtown to downtown Boston-NYC, but you got to get to/from the terminal to use it. However, it is faster than driving. And when travel to/from airports is accounted for, it can be as fast as flying. But with a shorter cab ride. Main drawback: fewer arrival-departures choices.

High speed passenger rail in California? If someone needs to get from LA to San Jose/San Fran that quickly; then they will fly. With more flight options than the rail can offer. And they will pay the full price for it, not everyone in the state paying part of the fare.

In short, America had passenger rail with trains that ran in excess of 110 MPH. And they did not turn a profit, even when air travel was mainly used by the very rich who could afford it, and travel by car was a tedious, slow journey with no air conditioning.

Passenger rail? Been there. Done that. Got the abandoned rights-of-way to show for it. And all that steel has been made into razor blades a long time ago.

"True high-speed rail is worth funding," she (authority spokeswoman Rachel Wall) said, adding she thought the benefits of the project were too great for Congress to pass the bill removing the funding.

Wow! More "to big to fail" idiocy.

It seems pretty obvious to me, except for the totally clueless governor-elect “Moonbeam” Brown and the CA assembly — that their FedGov monies are coming to a screeching halt.

Now, you folks had best get serious about fixing that mess you've made of your state. Bye, bye.

We need to get the Illegal Aliens coming up from Mexico into Oregon as quickly as possible. It's all part of the new California “spread the wealth” policy.
