Colorado -(Ammoland.com)- If theres anything that makes a concealed carry permit holder upset, its criminal safezones.
A criminal safezone is where only criminals are safe, because armed self defense is banned. Thats why the National Association for Gun Rights has filed a lawsuit against the United State Postal Service.
The U.S. Postal Service uses bureaucratic rules to ban your right to carry in a Post Office, and thats important, even if you dont carry concealed - its the camels nose under the tent.
You see, the U.S. Postal Service claims citizens dont have the right to self defense in Post Offices.
Theres one problem with that claim: it isnt true.
The law cited by the Post Office creates an exception for lawful carrying of firearms for other lawful purposes. On top of that, both the Heller and McDonald Supreme Court decisions guarantee the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation.
Sounds like it should be simple, right?
Well, no government bureaucracy ever gave up power without a fight.
And, given the anti-gun nature of the Obama administration, we know they arent going to instruct the Postal service properly.
So I assumed youd want your organization to act and quickly.
Do you support this lawsuit on behalf of law-abiding citizens for their self defense?
I sincerely hope so. I know, personally, it infuriates me to be disarmed just because Im picking up my mail.
But imagine how Debbie Bonidy feels. Debbie and Tab Bonidy live in the mountains of Colorado, and are the plaintiffs - along with the National Association for Gun Rights - against the Postal Service.
Debbie Bonidy doesnt like going anywhere without her personal handgun, which is why she went through the trouble of being trained, proving shes law-abiding, and getting her concealed carry permit. Not only does the U.S. Postal Service say she cant carry that handgun for self protection in a Post Office, but they arrogantly claim she cant even leave it in her car when in their lot.
If we win this lawsuit, that outrageous policy will change in every Post Office in America.
For Freedom, Dudley Brown Executive Director National Association for Gun Rights
P.S. I hope you will support our lawsuit against the Postal Services ban on self-defense.
Weve already filed the suit against the Post Office, and if we win, theyll be forced to allow legally authorized citizens to carry in Post Offices across the country.
About: The National Association for Gun Rights was founded in 2001 to serve as a grassroots gun rights group focusing on building state-level gun rights groups and lobbying for pro-gun federal legislation. Brown has been a gun lobbyist for more than 17 years. Visit: www.nationalgunrights.org

We might as well accept the fact that we (gun owners) will end up needing to sue nearly every single city, state and .gov body to ensure that Heller and McDonald are applied and adhered too.
The idea that once we won those two cases that it was settled was foolish.
100 years from now somewhere in this nation someone will still be suing a .gov agency, a police or sheriffs dept, a city or a county over this very same issue.
The only thing that is going to stop the gross violation of our civil rights is to start demanding the jailing of those who violate them.
I’ve a CCW in my home state, and, while I seldom need to hit the post office, when I do I simply ignore their silly rule.
After all, concealed means that it won’t be noticed...
Too, if I’ve got the only weapon, just what can they do about it?
Agencies will bring their anti-gun policies "under review" once we've claimed a few of these bureaucrats scalps.
The ideologues will dig in their heels and get sued, the rest will take the path of least resistance.
I hope they win. Won’t do anything for me immediately because my state prohibits carry in government buildings, but we’ll be working on that when the next legislative session starts in January. Honestly, I doubt the ladies at the post office I usually use would care, but I don’t think I want to bet a jail sentence on that.
Write down your license plate and send a SWAT team to arrest you?
There are a lot of Post Office activities which can be done elsewhere.
I buy stamps at the grocery store or Costco.
I send packages by FedEx, UPS or at a private mailbox facility.
Haven’t been in a Post Office in years.
Oh, they are losing money? Well, customer service is necessary for any well-run business. They don’t have it.
I used to work for the post office in a small town in AZ. The postmaster was flipping out and disappeared from the office one day. She was very angry about something. Her boss called me and said that if the postmaster came back into the building that I was to evacuate the building and call 911.
Talk about hostile work conditions. Didn’t see her for about 3 weeks (sick leave). Then, she came back. Nothing was ever said about the incident. I didn’t last long at the post office after that. Too many security issues.
IMHO, though I only have experience in the post office in Yuma, AZ, the customer service their is actually pretty good. It has improved quite a bit in the last 15 years.
Their should be there.
Key sentence.
jail hell, deprivation of Rights can carry the death penalty...
I just don’t see why we have to have people start carrying dangerous guns into post offices. This should be a low-violence place. I mean, the current policy has worked PERFECTLY for many years, to completely keep guns, and gun violence, out of our post offices and post office workplaces. Hasn’t it?
Just in case I should need to spell it out for anybody, that was sarcasm.
Not really. U.S. Marine employment as Mail Guards, 1921-1926
What I really had reference to with my sarcastic comment was the string of mass shootings by postal employees some time back that gave rise to the phrase, “going postal.” :-)
Obviously you have not read all the accounts of post office employees going postal ...
Wasn’t there a case where a postal employee went off his rocker and shot some fellow employees about ten years ago?
