I thought he was found not guilty already. When is this witch hunt ever going to end?
He never went to trial in the Fed case. They dropped the investigation. All that is left is the state case started by Ronnie Earle back when he was DA in Travis County.
Goodness, is DeLay gone mad too, imitating something Jack French Kemp would have said?
This is in Austin, Texas—the Liberal core of Texas.
iffen this is the trial stemming from the 2007/2008?? timeframe, i was pretty sure Delay did what he did, BUT there was no law at that time addressing it. Later a law was passed(i think) , and was after the Delay action.
Whole thing was seen as a futile exercise because no law existed to be broken.
Jury found him guilty on 2 counts...facing life in prison
While I’m a conservative in ideology, I’m not at all partisan when it comes to giving any government official his due when it comes to ethics or corruption convictions.
I favor the flat policy that ANY official regardless of political ties or position that has taken an oath of office to the USA Constitution and to the people (and that includes judges, DAs, elected officials, cops etc ) needs to face life in prison if they are found guilty of corruption. I’d give them one appeal but that would be it.
It would make a huge difference in ethics of Congress and others if their lives were put on the line. You would no longer see even the slightest perception of misbehavior.
