Remember all the hand-wringing from those smart conservative pundits (you know who they are) who, after the 2008 election, argued that the GOP had to moderate or else risk extinction?
Once it became clear that 2010 would be a good year for Republicans, many of these same folks quickly pivoted, adopting a nuanced argument that went like this:
Sure the GOP can have a good year in 2010 but thats a mid-term election. Winning in 2010, however, will actually reinforce the GOPs silly notion that they can win the future without changing their conservative (read mean-spirited) ideology. After all, changing demographics mean that conservatism will eventually go the way of the dodo
Now, even that argument, which lets be honest was really their plan b argument, seems to be falling apart.

“Exit polls reported by CNN and updated this week reveal that a historically robust 38 percent of Hispanic voters cast ballots for House Republican candidates in 2010 more than in 2006 (30 percent) and 2008 (29 percent). In fact, since 1984, Republican House candidates have only won a higher percentage of the Hispanic vote in one election: 2004. This level of Hispanic support for Republican candidates came despite widespread pre-election claims by advocates for illegal immigration that the Arizona law and a pro-rule-of-law stand would undercut Hispanic support for Republicans.” Let’s keep it up and we’ll have Barry thrown out of in the next election.
Hope and Change is leading to disillusionment by the followers. The Messiah has no clothes, there is no free mortgage, no free lunch, etc.
Self reliance, fair playing field, and getting government out of the way of the entrepreneurial minded citizens will be the meme moving forward.
Truth and love will always gain ground with anyone worth gaining ground.
Lead with truth and love, and people will follow - and vote for.
“The Messiah has no clothes, there is no free mortgage, no free lunch, etc.”
Oh please Mike tell me it ain’t so!
Take this with a grain of salt. The GOP will get the support of conservative Hispanics so long as Republicans represent conservative principles and family values. If the GOP continues trying to gain the Hispanic vote by appeasing illegals, the spread between 20 percent and thirty percent will be a crap shoot, depending on how appealing the Democratic candidates are.
Most Hispanics I know personally are conservative. In New Mexico we just elected the first female Hispanic Governor and she is as conservative as they come.
But we continue to have the message bent, called 'racist', etc. How can we expect the electorate to vote with strong moral conviction for good candidates when we do not offer clear and outright choices. The Democrats want to eliminate the border, give citizenship to illegals, and bankrupt social security by including anyone and everyone. Make it a clear choice, and the voters will flock to the right one.
Would you capitalize White Anglo Saxon Protestant, or just call us crackers and leave it at that?
Enlighten me as to why the descendants of the Conquistadors - the most murderous group of settlers to come to the Americas - somehow deserve some sort of special consideration and recognition, when their entire history is one of horrifying degradation, social collapse, and thuggery as government.
Dear Friends-The last three weeks have flown by. It seems just like yesterday that I stood before you on Election Night as we took our first significant step toward moving our state in a new direction. Since that night, we have been working diligently to find the principled leaders who will guide our state agencies, and we have begun the review process that will help us trim state government and get back on track.
I also announced that Richard E. May was my nominee for Secretary of the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA). As you know, the reality of the budget situation has grown progressively worse in the last few weeks. We have gone from having a quarter billion dollar deficit to one thats nearly half a billion dollars.
As I work each day to build a team that represents the values and principles I communicated during the campaign, I am reminded of so many friends I met along the way. I will never forget the words of wisdom and counsel each one of you imparted during the 15 months I traveled our beautiful state.
I, more than anyone, have much to give thanks for.
This Thanksgiving, as you sit and enjoy special moments with family and friends, please know that I am deeply humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me. As your Governor, I will work day and night to get New Mexicos books in order, create jobs, reform education and end the abuse of the public trust.
God Bless each one of you and Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Most Sincerely-
Governor-elect Susana Martinez [New Mexico]
There are so many factors to consider in gaining ground in elections. The media, and I’m pretty sure deliberately, almost always focuses on GOP support lagging amongst some narrow group... and if that can’t be shown, they will flog the notion that it surely will lag if Republicans don’t move sufficiently towards the liberal perspective. What goes unsaid is what other groups Republicans are gaining support with, as well as enthusiasm and turnout differentials, and if that more than offsets the lack of support amongst some group that was never (at least in the near term) going to support Republicans anyway.
Good grief!
I'm equally baffled by that. Sounds like deep-seated racial hatred towards whites based on descent from the Spanish Conquistadors. And this relates to your post somehow?
As the children of illegals start to vote, Hispanics will become an 80% Democrat voting bloc.
US citizens who happen to be of Hispanic ethnicity are getting screwed just as badly by all the problems caused by this regime as anyone else. There’s no reason why they wouldn’t see the GOP as a way to solve those problems.
They opposed Whitman, the Republican candidate because she fired her illegal alien maid slave...The illegal maid turned on her, with all the Hispanics coming out in support for their illegal friends and relatives.
“Now, even that argument, which lets be honest was really their plan b argument, seems to be falling apart.”
Exactly - and the fact that us Conservatives, and future Tea Partiers were being told that Obama was popular, and the Senate was stacked against us (R to D ratio), meant that seats would be lost in 2010. In fact, the days of the Two Party System were essentially over, for a long time...and the only hope for us was to do what ‘conservatives’ in Europe had done, which was keep the name, but just be a bit lighter on the Socialism stuff than the Dems.
No one was talking about gaining a thing in 2010 with the Republican Party as it was, much less a BLOWOUT.
They really wanted us gone and THANKFULLY Rush and the new media wouldn’t allow them to get their way.
“(In my estimation, 38 percent is nothing to write home about but the trend line is, at least, finally going in the right direction)”
In my opinion 38% is AWESOME. The Dems are betting their existence on Hispanics taking the place of New Deal Democrats who are rapidly dieing off (the ones that wouldn’t care if Mao came back from the dead to lead the Dems, as long as the Dems weren’t the evil Republicans). If the Hispanics can even keep up these numbers, the Dems will have to wait GENERATIONS to get their power back. There simply is not enough blacks and gays in this country to make them viable, no matter how much they try.
This is cetainly true with non mexican Hispanics. Its an uphill fight for the average Joe/Jane because Spanish TV (US) is tightly controlled by mexicans and extremely anti US/conservative. About like the regular MSM.
That’s true, but as the Mexican population of California grows, the pressure to assimilate into American society will diminish even further, and the desire to rejoin Mexico, or to create a separate country, will grow stronger.
Once California becomes majority Mexican, where will the loyalties of its new majority lie: with America, or Mexico?
Fella, I don't know what your problem is, and frankly don't give a crap. But since you asked, yes, if using the term Anglo Saxon in a sentence, I would capitalize it. Why? For the same reason I capitalized Hispanic - because in both cases it is grammatically correct according to my Merriam-Webster dictionary.

I'll thank you to not assign your BS motives to my posts!!
That’s only if Republicans keep doing what they’ve been doing.
1000 babies from illegal aliens are delivered at tax payer expense at Parkland Hospitals in Texas, every month..
That's every single month, at just one hospital in Texas.
It means the political ground is shifting in ways yet to be discerned, but that the old identity bigotry of the Left is not going to work as well as it has in the past.
Those who would write off Hispanics because they are "Just like the black vote" are seriously in error and need very much to take a cold hard look at what is going on, and what is possible for the future.
What happened to simply being an American?
GAAAACK! I want to puke.
Follow the advice of the so-called “moderates” and Obama will win at least one more term.
Not the ones that become Protestants, they are about a 50/50 vote.
JaguarXKE is right-those sentiments sound a bit over the top-and everyone who can read a history book knows that most Hispanics are NOT purely Spanish, but a mixture of the truly dreadful conquistadores and the native population of the Americas who were used and abused by them-we are an ethnic group, not a “race”.
I’m an American of Hispanic ancestry-my (Republican/conservative) family has lived in what is now Texas since the 1700’s, having come here to raise livestock and crops. No one in my family even tolerates mojados/illegals, nor do most of the Americans of Hispanic ancestry that I know, so please do not tar us with that illegal-loving brush.
Amnesty! Amnesty! We can't be on the wrong side of Amnesty!
“Hispanics will become an 80% Democrat voting bloc.” Only in California, and then only because it is a lunatic-run red state...
You said it, brother. If I hear the phrase “coveted Hispanic vote” one more time I’ll shriek. Do Hispanic votes count more than other people’s votes? It seems like it. Fact is, the reason their votes are so “coveted” is because both parties know that Hispanics are going to be the majority. And the reason they’re going to be the majority is because we’ve allowed tens of millions of them to flood in, legally and illegally, while giving even the children of illegals automatic citizenship. It’s like allowing your next-door neighbors to come live with you and your family, and then being in the position of having to kowtow to them and kiss their butts because very soon there will be more of them than there are of you.
Folks, you must remember that “Hispanics” unlike American Blacks are a politically diversified group of Americans and.... have been for many years assimilating into the general USA population. Like any other “foreign group”, whether they be Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, Cubans or from any number of Latin, Central or South American countries they never have voted solidly as one political block. Only a fool would do that!!! It leaves no room for leverage or political pressure. Hispanics are just the same as any other immigrant group. One day when Black folk begin to get it, they too, will begin the assimilation that will lead them from the bottom of the economic totem pole they have been chained too by their leaders (NAACP & CBC) and the Democrat Party. That movement has already started within the “Black” middle class, witness the large numbers of Blacks that have just run, some of them successfully for national, state and local political offices as Conservative Republicans. The large majority of American Blacks still blindly, and without good reason, follow Obama and the Democrat Party, a huge blunder and mistake that is hurting their advance dramatically on many fronts. However, study of the recent mid-term elections regarding voter turnout reveals both significant numbers of Hispanics and Blacks failed to turnout and vote Democrat this election cycle. Maybe the hope and change of the “real” world and not the flim/flam mantra of failed POTUS Obama is beginning to hit home. Let hope and pray that is so for the good of millions of Black American citizens and the USA in total. Hispanics, get it, and are on their way, thank you!!!
My first husband was from New Mexico, and we went there to visit his family frequently. It always seemed to me that most of the liberals there were centered in Santa Fe and the other tourist-y areas like ski resorts, etc-and most of them seemed to be from California originally. It was sort of like the Austin area is here in Texas, only bigger. A lot of conservative territory could be reclaimed if transplanted liberals could be induced to return to California...
Good God! There are plenty of conservative Americans of Hispanic descent like me, whose families have lived in what was Spanish territory when America was a British colony-does that make me one of “them”? All the Hispanics in America did not swim across the Rio Grande, or come illegally to the US from elsewhere in South/Central America within the last 30 years.
Snort! What a crock. Is flying flags from foreign countries (hanging from rear view mirrors), referring to mexico as "my country" and speaking spanish whenever they can now considered assimilating?
Thank you-I daresay you have not witnessed any of these extreme, anti-American antics described by some here by legal immigrants or mojados in your home town, any more than I have. I have seen film of them on TV though-in California and Nevada. Illegals are breaking the law to begin with-arrest them and send tjem back to wherever hell hole they came from-and legal immigrants who do things like that should have their citizenship applications seriously questioned.
Oops! Let me trade that for “them” and “whatever”.
Well, good for you! But that doesn’t change the fact that tens of millions of Hispanics have flooded in in recent years, that we have given citizenship even to the children of illegals, and that they will be the majority, making both parties feel that they need to pander to them. I never said “every” American of Hispanic descent was this or that. Do not react emotionally or think that every post is “about you.”
“Not the ones that become Protestants, they are about a 50/50 vote.”
It doesn’t matter, they will vote Democrat because the Republicans blocked amnesty for their parents.
Yes it does matter, the ones that become Protestant become a different type of Hispanic, a more conservative, more American type, that votes closer to the white Protestant voter.
But the reason for my post is to raise consciousness that seems to have been lost in America due to cultural Marxism (also known as "political correctness").
Popular discourse now bestows victim status on "hispanics" or "latinos". This expresses itself in the media as a continuing elevation of their cultural status by use of glorifying adjectives ("vibrant culture" for example).
For that matter, the identity group nomenclature - which doesn't exist in Spain or Latin America - is itself a successful attempt to create a victim group where one did not exist before - merely an enemy group based on the history of the Americas (Anglo-British Protestants at war with Spaniard Catholics, and later Mexican Catholics after the Mexican War of Independence between 1811-1821).
The opposite intent of the Bolshevist cultural warriors - those implementing the intent of Gramsci, Adorno and Marcuse - is to deligitimize White Anglo Saxon Protestant (i.e., American) culture and governmental norms by using diminishing adjectives, pejoratives, and bigoted slang ("cracker", "gringo", etc) which Americans are supposed to simply accept without retaliation.
This has the intended effect of cultural defeat and diminishment.
To the extent that people cooperate with their approach, they win. To the extent that we do not, and we call "BS" as you claim my motive was, we can push back, and save our nation and culture.
The word "Hispanic" is itself a made up label as explained above. Spaniards are mystified by its use as applied to them because they are white Europeans for the most part and they refer to Mexicans as "South Americans", for instance.
But it is no mystery where such words come from if you understand the cultural initiative that spawned them.
By using them, and in some cases accepting the notion that Spaniards who settled in Northern New Mexico in 1640 are some sort of "victim" class which is entitled to special consideration, people surrender to the culture war imposed on us by the Communists who seek to weaken America from within.
We should not surrender.
"Undocumented Workers" are illegal aliens. Nothing more. If "Hispanics" are Americans, then that's all they are. Nothing more.
Now you know. Whether you intend it or not, to me, you are engaging in the cultural attack on the American nation by acquiescing to the cultural rules propagated by the cultural Marxists.
And on that, I call BS.
Well, let me tell you something buddy - I served my country for 24 years and I don't need you or anyone else giving me lectures or suggesting I'm attacking my country in any fashion. I hope that's clear enough for you.
There certainly are millions of mojados/illegals in the US, dining on our tax dollars, which fans the fury of every law abiding American-it actually makes most native-born and legally immigrated Hispanic Americans more angry, because it causes many people to use that broad brush to make “Hispanic” a dirty word. Reagan opened that amnesty floodgate, and what a mistake that turned out to be.
The reason those illegals are here in the first place is the greed for votes and pandering of liberal politicians of all ethnic groups and political parties-not honest citizens of any race or ethnic group. I know that California has seen some of the worst consequences of illegal immigration-abuse of the law, lack of assimilation, arrogance and anti-American sentiment, etc, because of their coddling of illegals, but the people there still keep voting for limousine liberals.
Or else what, Big Man? You'll type something really really mean to me?
Whatta clown.
I just won’t pay any attention to you. Go lecture someone who cares.
